My husband and I moved from NYC to Albuquerque five months ago, but Adam Moving, Inc. ripped off our entire household in the process -- including needed medical supplies, artwork by both my deceased parents, irreplaceable photographs and spiritual items, plus all our furniture, clothing, electronics, etc.

We refused to pay extortion money (four times the original estimate) and called the police. They put "the boss" on their cell phone, who told me "Look, if you're not willing to cooperate, we'll lock your stuff in the warehouse and throw away the keys and you'll never see your possessions again."

They committed grand larceny in front of four police officers who refused to intervene saying it was a "civil matter." They also tried to jail my (innocent/never-before-arrested) husband, who is diabetic and had his hands damaged from diabetic neuropathy from nine hours of handcuffs. The police arrested my husband (apologetically! -- big help...) while the moving van pulled out against my screaming protests.

We thought the police were supposed to protect people! We were so traumatized we could not sleep for weeks.

The police knew my husband was innocent and that we were victims of the criminal movers, and they made sure the D.A. refused to prosecute him, but after two attorneys and months of aggravation, hiked prices, demands for release from liability, "We'll take cash up front only," lies and cons, our possessions are still stolen and we are taking the movers to court. This has been a complete nightmare and not yet resolved.

The moving company is Adam Moving, Inc. of Brooklyn, NY. We would love to join some class action suit and/or RICO action. This has been like dealing with the mafia -- we are "beyond furious." Any help or encouragement would be appreciated.

WRITTEN BINDING ESTIMATE!

AUTHOR: DANNY - ()

POSTED: Thursday, September 19, 2002

Before moving, consumers should ask to recieve a written binding estimate from their mover. They then will know the final cost of the move before the move has even begun. This method will avoid any discrepancy in the price of the move. Remember that a written binding estimate cannot be given over the phone, and only is valid for thirty days.

DISPATCHER

AUTHOR: OREN - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, July 17, 2002

its funny how this consumer forgets to state
that her husband who is so sick and is a dieabetic
was arrested by the police because he ran after the forman with a pair of scissors and tried to stab him in front of 6 witnesses including
thier nieghbors who inturn told the police these
people are crazy and are glad they are moving
so if we are gonna make accusations the whole story should be told and there goods were not held hostage they never paid a dime for the move because a custome made piano could not be dissasembled in there home by the men because it was built in the home when we didnt move the piano thats when they demanded we unload the truck after 8 hours of work and wouldnt then pay for the labor to do so

That sucks

AUTHOR: Ed - ()

POSTED: Thursday, June 06, 2002

The movers/con men should have been the ones in handcuffs. It's a shame you couldn't sue them for this. It's things like this that lawsuits were really made for.
