I recently married a woman from Pontiac, MI and I spent the week of Feb 17 - 23 helping her pack her possession to move to where I am located here in Richland, WA. Through the internet, we contacted Advanced Moving System, 4582 North Hiatus Rd., Sunrise, FL 33351 888-918-6683. They quoted us a price of $2510 to load her packed possessions and to truck them to the state of Washington.

The movers arrived Feb. 25, 2002 in the morning and begin to load the truck. They were initially showed everything that was to be moved and did not indicate that anything was out of line with the quotation that had been given. Then they asked my wife to sign two documents. The first was the Bill of Lading that contained the original $2510 quote. The second was the Bill of Lading that would authorize payment for extra packing materials. My wife signed it authorizing $290 of additions charges on the left hand side of the page. It had nothing filled out on the right hand side of the page. We were not given a copy of this second Bill of Lading.

When the truck was fully loaded, they told my wife that they would need payment of $6098. She was outraged! We called the main office and told them to unload or do the job for no more than $3500. They asked to speak to the driver. The driver said they wanted to go for lunch and would return and unload or truck at the agreed upon price. They left and that was the last we have seen of our possessions.

I have since obtained a copy of the second Bill of Lading and we find that the additional charges to total to $6098 have been added to the right side of the second Bill of Lading. It is their position that the total estimate was made prior to loading. However their claim is false and what is more they have falsified the second Bill of Lading by adding charges to it after my wife had already signed it.

I will not allow these people to ship for us and want to reclaim our possessions. They are being held in an undisclosed location.

It is my contention that they have no contract and they have attempted to extort money my holding our property. They have also stolen our property.

I can prove beyond a reasonable doubt by a review of events that they have falsified the Bill of Lading Documents and hence have no valid contract.

#2 Consumer Suggestion

The media needs to get involved

AUTHOR: Bob - ()

POSTED: Thursday, April 18, 2002

I cannot believe that Advanced Moving is still in business!! I am dumbfounded that our government, both State and Federal, hasn't gotten involved (task force would be good) to shut them down. As I speak, consumers - in large numbers - are continuing to be ripped off!! Just look at the comments with regard to Advanced Moving complaints on this site alone. This website is probably only one of many that has filed complaints against Advanced Moving.

What does it take to establish an egregious category for the government, specifically, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), US Department of Transportation (USDOT) branch - Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCS) to take action against this company? I am appalled at our government's impotence in dealing with this company - and others like it - when they are engaged and fall into a very apparent, egregious category (ovewhelming consumer complaint numbers speak loudly).

I too have been a victim of Advanced Moving's consumer rip-off schemes. I have formally complained - over the past several months, to the DOT, the FMCSA, the FBI, the FTC, the Florida Attorney General, and my local U.S Texas congressman and senator.

The responses that I get - from all of them - is that they are all sympathetic and looking into the (my and others) allegations of consumer complaints! Wow! Does that make you feel good? At this point, what we need is press involvement.

Believe me, our govenment, both federal and state, are too overwhelmed with other national priority issues, and unless they hear from ovewhelming consumer complaints, they simply will not get involved/play and active role. The bottom line is resources; none of them are adequately funded (see recent GAO website subject comments on) to dedicate staff to pursue our (American public) complaints! Therefore, I am convinced that the only way to get national attention is to solicit/get the media involved.

The media are great consumer complaint champions. I, for one, solicit/challenge ABC, NBC to do an in-depth documentary for those Americans (believe me, there are significant numbers) who have suffered financial and emotional losses - and who feel that our government is simply not doing enough. We need a champion - someone, some company, news media, govenment agency, congressperson, with clout - who will vocally champion our concerns/cause. I need your - and other voices too. Let's all get involved in influencing the press to champion our consumer outrage cause. Ralph Nader, Dan Rather, where are you?

There is help out there

This is in response to the moving scams that are going on all around the United States and to the above scam.

There is help out there. Right now there is a bill, which is a start, that is on Florida's Governor Jeb Bush's desk, Bill #H893.

We are waiting for him to sign this bill. Please contact his office and plead for this to be signed. It is not the solution to all the problems going on, but will certainly help Florida.

You should contact your state governors office. Also, contact your local and state attorney's office. Let your local government know these scams are going on. Go to www.movingadvocateteam.com and see the movers scams latest attempt to ripoff the people. They are now connected with the United States Postal Office. Also, go to movingscam.com.

These sites have real people who will help you. They have helped lots of people get their possessions back. There is a list of blacklisted movers, who are suppose to be shut down, but some are still operating.

It will help if anyone is moving in the future, to check out any place they can find information on so they are not the next victim. Ripoffreport is excellent with the complaints filed. On ripoffreport you are getting the facts. Ripoffreport would have saved my families heartache if only we knew about them. Do not rely on the BBB.

Spread the word. Send out emails. There is help out there. Be persistent. But, most of all, BE AWARE. GOOD LUCK!!!!!
