First, let me begin with the fact that I am a very experienced "mover" and am very aware of the procedures and pitfalls, but I have never had such a horrendous experience as this move. The company I hired had truck problems and contracted out to Air-1 Moving and Storage. They seemed nice when responding to fill in at the last minute. But the trouble began after they loaded the truck and demanded an additional $650 cash due to "extra items". They then demanded half of the total move in cash or they would not move me. They then demanded a "tip" for the guys working so hard. (Isn't that why we hire them?)
There was very poor communication on when/where my belongings were to arrive. I paid for 30 days storage in Northern California, only to find out later my belongings were first stored in Texas for an undisclosed period of time at an undisclosed location, then they were moved to Los Angeles for an unknown time, at an unknown location, then moved to San Francisco to the company warehouse before being delivered to me.
When my things arrived, the boxes were crushed, torn, broken and missing their inventory tags. The worst is that a California King TempurPedic mattress was missing - and has never been found. In addition, the delivery personnel at first denied I ever had this mattress - even though it was listed as item #1 on the inventory list. In addition, rugs, brooms, tables, garbage cans and other "loose" items were missing. They again demanded cash - but I already had a cashiers check for them; and again, they wanted a "tip".
I have filed the insurance claim forms, providing receipts, etc. To date, all I have ever received is an offer of "$100 in good faith" for my inconvenience which they "are not responsible for".
Whatever you do, never hire this company. I am a single mother trying to start a new life and I could ill afford the devastation this company caused on my life and the theft of so much of my personal property.

Dear TD.
I am very confused, I have here with the me the original list of items you provided and the list my movers have dun for you at pick up and I regret to say that the list does not match.
If you have any other documents that I do not have please forward that to me so I can get to the bottom of it.
If you have insurance for the move the claim is directly with that insurance company, Air 1 did not provided you that insurance, we do not work with AOTS.
We cannot honor that policy cuss it was not purchase from us.
Contact AOTS directly.
if you need assistance forward me the insurance policy and I promise to assist you with that.
I understand originally you contracted with a different company, but we preformed the job by the information that was forward to us by All over the state, and you agreeing receiving our services basically mean that you hired us, even if that was last minute.
Please forward me your original list of items and the insurance policy.

To Tammy Gale;
Let's please get the facts straight. I did not hire you. You were contracted by the company I originally hired - All Over The States. Their truck broke down and your company AGREED to the last minute contract with them! I had to move out of my property that day - and it was already 2 days later than planned. I DID NOT have more items than the original list. It was EXACTLY the same list. And your company charged by the cubic foot - not weight as required by law. The difference in the cu.ft. "quote" was less than 12 feet - and you charged me over $600 additional which I had to agree to AFTER the truck was loaded - or they would unload in the street! And the overall price exceeded my original "guaranteed" quote by $1325! And the storage took place in two unauthorized places, and I was told it would be $50/month - and you charged me $560 for 2.5 months!
Yes - I packed my belongings in solid moving boxes with sufficient packing. I did not believe you would crush boxes, tear holes in boxes and lose boxes. Nor did I believe you would LOSE so many of my belongings. You KEPT my personal hand truck, all of my moving blankets, "lost" my California King bed, lost all loose items - ie; trash cans, brooms, mops, rakes, etc, lost a table, broke legs off furniture, and the list goes on and on. I was told I DID have $50,000 insurance coverage by AOTS. Your company will not honor that commitment.
To date, I have not received ONE DIME from your company and only excuses saying "you are not responsible" for the destruction and loss of my belongings. And all this does not include the extra hotels and moving cost due to delays on both ends of the move.
I was also "cautioned" by the movers on the front end that with a tip "my belongings would get better care". What kind of business is this??

Respond from Air 1 Moving and storage.

As TD expressed, her relocation was a last minute request, and she got a service at the same day it was requested.( respond less then 24 hours).
She had more items than advice over the phone, and like any other moving company if you have more items than advised the price changes accordingly to the total weight and Cu ft on the truck.
We gave Mrs. TD an Option not to take the additional items in order to save the original price she was quoted, or even not moving with the company.( just a remainder that was a move that was reserved the same day, I don't think it was awful of us to give her the option to break the contract)
The customer requested to continue with the contract and agreed to the additional charges.
TD started a claiming process after the move for damages she had.
Her information was processed immediately as she filed the request.
TD did not purchase full insurance coverage.
Also she was in charge on her personal packing and have mad all preparation for her move.
Air 1 Moving & Storage is a moving company not insurance company.
Due to her claim she did received a $100 in good faith" for her inconvenience.
The company re-enforced with the movers all company policy and forbidden to request any tips.
