$34,000 later and my degee is in a picture frame.  After many lies, identify theft, and hours of emotional abuse, my Masters Degree is as good as blank paper.  Investigation has confirmed that AIU is a scam.

Employees are fired if they do not sell their quota of programs.  They are told to lie and tell the students whatever it takes to sign them up.  So when I ask if my new degree would renew my teahing certification, and they said yes,  I understand the outcome.  It was not the truth.  The State of Michigan said they are incorrect or a fraud.

The money was all I had and still had 2 boys to put through college.  AIU cost me my job, caused stress and I tolerated much abuse.  They will go down--in time, they will get their just.

when my father passed away, I asked for permission to finish the class in the next 6 weeks without re-registration, and they assured me that this was the convenience of AIU. I was charged the full tuition. Then one six week class I was disconnected, and they could not find my registration,[ I do not believe it], but for being in the class ONE week, they charged full tuition. One class they said my grades were not satisfactory, several of the students in the same class were told the same thing, so we had to repeat the class, we gave the same answers and this time it was an A. This is a perfect example of fraud, lies, and the ultimate of a scam.

Nadine of South Haven...Our opinions differ

AUTHOR: Lasseterja - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Nadine,

I expressed my views to the original poster Reported By: jt (grand rapids Michigan) and others that read this post because I feel my experiences are valid.  AIU properly prepared me for my profession as a Training Specialist with the U.S. Navy and for future educational endeavors which is all I can ask of any graduate program.

The only negative in my whole AIU experience for me was Financial Aid and Accounting departments.  Their financial aid office is among the worst I have encountered in all my years of education.  However, the curriculum and instructional staff are first rate and adequately prepared me for my doctoral program in which I'm two semesters complete.  The level of knowledge and application required of the AIU curriculum was on par with my follow-on studies.  Moreover, it was more current with the latest trends in education and training.

No need to question my honesty in this.  My opinion is just different than yours and I don't feel a need to slander a whole institution because of a poor experience with their financial aid department.  This is no different than with other Universities and Colleges that I have attended throughout my 23 year Naval career.  I attended no less than 8 different institutions of higher learning and they all had some problems in one of their various departments.  None of these made the whole institution bad.

No flames intended just expresssing view from my experience that AIU delivered as promised based on my advanced research of online learning and expectations of AIU. AIU never lied to me and their disclaimers for licensure are prominently posted.

You got a teaching education from AIU and we are talking about another degree which you are not afflicted by. So, don't make any comments you can not back up mister. I can care less what you can due with your degree and have to wonder about your insault regarding honest, smart people trying to better themself.

AIU is as bad as it gets. Research before you run off with asumption.

AIU is a good choice for working professionals

AUTHOR: Lasseterja - (U.S.A.)

First and foremost, I'm truly sorry for the loss of your father and your experience at AIU.

However, your experiences are a sharp contrast to my own.  I attended AIU for my Master's in Education graduating August 2009. My graduate degree has led to a promotion and acceptance to a doctoral program I'm currently pursuing at Regent University here in Virginia Beach.  The education greatly enhanced my professional development and opened paths for doctoral work at a fine university.

Having said that, I will concede their Financial Aid and Account Departments are the weakest link to an otherwise outstanding educational organization.  However, what you describe about teaching certification is contrary to the web posting as follows:

"Note that the M.Ed. degree online is not designed to meet state educator licensing requirements. It may assist students in gaining licensure in their state of residence depending upon requirements. To find out more information about teacher certification in a specific state, please click on Certification Information and use the drop down menu to select the state. You will then be routed to the appropriate state specific teacher licensure site for this information".

This is visibly posted on every Education degree offered at AIU and naivety is never an excuse for an adult who enters into a contract.  I knew this going in but also knew it was regionally accredited and the M.Ed. was just a spring board for my doctorate program. AIU is hardly a fraud or a scam.

To those that read this post, I'm a graduate of AIU after 23 years of Naval service.  My graduate degree was a major contributor in me getting a promotion and substantial increase in salary.  Moreover, I was accepted by Old Dominion University and Regent University for doctoral programs in Education; I chose Regent. If AIU was worthless as many of these disgruntled posters on Rip Off Report allege, then I would not have been accepted to these two stellar universities.  Additionally, my employer would not have reimbursed me for expenses for my coursework.

I would recommend AIU to any working professional seeking to enhance their resume and looking for upward progression.  AIU is not for everyone but these posts are really unfair to the many thousands of alumni, current students and the many outstanding instructors at AIU.

This is my report to #125449. I live in Michigan as well

Got burned out in my old profession and needed to get another education so I ask for info and got thrown into the boiler-room practice of AIU admission. After that well. 3 tests posted on my student site per 90 minutes to stay in the program (which I pass), locked out of the class-room because some wit at AIU failed to due there job (had to signed and fax a promissory note on a Sunday no less to get back into class-room), and paid extra to clep out of 3 basic classes.

The 10 main classes for my degree in criminal justice where legit as the professors as well (researched all of them).

Started in 2003 and graduated with a 4.0 in 2005 from AIU. After years of networking, interviews and what have you I gave up. I am not talking about the classes but the admission, advisors and people to help you gain employment. What a crap full of elusion and scams.

I ask a lot of question about employment and got nothing but lies. The degree is helpful to people that are already working in some entity of the criminal justice system and I am not one of them so therefore this degree is no more then a piece of paper. No, I am not the only one. 70 % of the students that graduated with me are not employed in that field and moved on as myself with more schooling in other areas just to pay back there student loans, or still continue working in a dead-end job just to make ends meet only with the student loan adage in form of thousands of dollars

Today, I am in a profession that is fulfilling and pays enough to pay back the mess AIU created for me. The only draw back is the unbelievable high price $ 37.000.00 I have to pay back for a degree I cannot utilize.

Due your research/employment search and look what is required before you enter into any higher education. In this case if you are not a police officer, sheriff, or work for the court/correctional system you are OUT!!!!!

I went to the A- General, the BBB and even complained to the Government since I have been compleatly over-charged by these rats and I have yet to hear from any of them with a solution to this problem.

BTW, correctional officer/ security people are not requiring to have a degree in this state and they work for a bit more then minimum wage.

$37.000.00 later, wiser and in a totally different profession I have a bachelor degree from AIU that I can hang on the wall which NOBODY cares. And I don't hang up my degree

Good luck
