I was dismissed from the University with two (2) classes left to complete my degree program. When I enrolled I was really looking forward to the work, but then I became ill. Though ill I still pursued my degree. I won't go into the details, but I will say that getting this degree was for me one of those things that you categorize as "something to accomplish before I die". I know what it's like to deal with both Advisors and Instructors that are non-responsive.

After a successful appeal to return to the University after being dismissed I made an earnest attempt to get the "A"s that were required. I almost made it too. One "A" and a "B" that could have just as easily been an "A" and might have been had I not complained about the instructors lectures or lack of them for the first few sessions. Well to say the least I was unceremoniously dismissed and told that I would never meet the GPA requirements. I have to admit my GPA was low- that too I am puzzled by because in my mind the sum total of my assignment grades should have put it much higher. Now I am told that I can appeal to re-enter and pursue another degree program, not the one I'd almost completed, and at full cost.

There are a few things wrong here. 1- I was allowed to continue taking classes when the University apparently had no intention of awarding me a degree costing me thousands more in tuition. 2 - I am paying off student loans for a degree that I don't have. 3 - The credits are not transferrable.

So here's the deal. We would love to hear from you if you find yourself in one of these or similar situations:
1. Allowed to continue after an appeal only to be dismissed and told that you would never meet the Universities requirements for graduation.
2. Received grades late from instructors.
3. Had instructors that were unresponsive and/or appeared to be absent from the process.
4. Lost points for not attending remaining chat sessions because the first few either didn't take place as planned or were absent of any subject matter related dialog, i.e. instructor and students talking about stuff other than the subject matter, etc.
5. Didn't know that your GPA was not totally about the grades that you received for completed work.
6. Had your student load payback period kick in almost immediately after receipt of an email from the Loan Management Team saying "We are sorry that the plan to finish your program of study at AIU Online has changed...".
