Although it has been a while since my experience with AIU, I would be glad to share my experience.  Before I had actually enrolled in any classes, I had an admissions counselor who did everything she could to convince me that AIU online was the school for me.  I was  lead to believe that I could study at my own pace and that I could leave the school at anytime, both of which turned out to be untrue.

My mom's house had sold, so I knew that there would be money to cover any education beyond my Bachelor of Science degree.  When I learned that the man who was handling these funds had died and the money had disappeared, I tried to cancel the enrollment process.  The enrollment counselor would not let me quit.  It took two terms until finally the school let me go.

Years later, I learn that AIU is one of those "for profit" schools and I am stuck with a school loan that I still can't pay.  Only now, I learn that my SSDI can be garnished.

If there is anybody who is involved in a class action suit against this school, I will be willing to join you.

Student loan discharge

AUTHOR: Jeanski - (USA)

POSTED: Thursday, September 30, 2010

If you are collecting SSDI, you must have been declared disabled, right? There is a provision that allows for the discharge of your loans if you are totally disabled. Contact the lender.  Us can also get more information from the Department of Education website.

This Is A Terrible Business Practice...

AUTHOR: Bman - (United States of America)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 28, 2010

And if what you say is true, then this practice must be stopped, yet I do not believe that ALL "For Profit" schools (as the one commentator states) is an outgrowth of Satan. We have an educational crisis in the USA, and the colleges, universities, and community colleges are TOO full and only allow a certain amount of people to be accepted each semester. For Profits schools serve the fall-off. The K12 issue is that many students do not have adequate preparation for the rigors ahead, which impedes one's ability to perform to a very high standard as is required in university. In terms of the world, we are only number one in one area when it comes to education - self esteem. We think we can do what it is we do not know how to do. We also do not want to learn and have become trapped in an overindulged ethos. We need to have a well-educated society if we are to compete in the marketplace, now we must consider this factor internationally. SOME "For Profit" schools are excellent and capable of educating many fall off and at risk students. The issue is the money and the ratio between what one pays for school and what one can earn after graduation - or Gainful Employment that is being debated now. This same standard is not applied to institutions that are NOT for profit - how many of these schools can guarantee a serious job after graduation and how can one rationalize their high expense? So it is not the school or education that is the problem and instead it is deceptive recruiting practices, the illusion that one that is at risk can enter a accelerated program, and that one needs not have any experience to enter a program and one will be successful. It is a problem that you were given poor admissions advice - any online program is 5.5 (to 6) weeks long, a semester is 24 weeks, and ground campus using a quarterly system is about 11 weeks. It is unrealistic and naive to think that this 5.5 program qualifies as a good place to reflect and grow if this is what you need due to the K12 educational inexperience and immaturity. You also need to know that wherever you go to school that the loan is permanent and it is the only loan that cannot be discharged in bankruptcy. This means that you can have your wages garnished if you do not pay back the loan. Banks created this policy and it was signed into law during the Bush administration. I would see if you could contact the bank that owns the loan(s) and see if you can make an arrangement since they have many possibilities that you can consider for repayment. One is for hardship in which you may qualify. If you signed a CONTRACT then you may not be able to discharge the loan(s) since you agreed to the conditions set forth by the school. This is why it is important to read the contract and the fine print, since this signature could bind you until you are in your 50s. This contract issue is true of ANY and ALL schools Profit or Non Profit. As to a class action lawsuit, you need to consider your complaint in a broader context, and if you write out a report and send to this government agency there may be some action:

WORTHESS FOR-PROFIT TRADE SCHOOLS NEED TO BE PUT OUT OF BUSINESS

AUTHOR: Joe - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, September 28, 2010

These rip-offs get more and more outrageous.

THEY CAN NOT CHARGE YOU FOR CLASSES THAT YOU DO NOT ENROLL IN AND DO NOT ATTEND.

INSTEAD OF GOING TO SCHOOL, I WOULD HAVE GONE AFTER THE MAN'S ESTATE WHO STOLE THE MONEY FROM THE SALE OF YOUR MOTHER'S HOUSE. SHE SHOULD HAVE SETTLED THAT IN HER WILL ANYWAY OR AT LEAST GAVE YOU THE POWER OF ATTORNEY.

I CHECKED ONLINE AND THAT "UNIVERSITY"  DIPLOMA MILL  YOU REFERRED TO IS STILL ONLINE AND OPENING THE DOORS OF STUDENT LOAN DEBT HELL AS WIDE AS EVER. THE CREDITS APPEAR TO BE BOGUS AND IT DOES NOT HELP YOUR CHANCES OF FINDING A JOB OR EVEN RETRAINING FOR ONE.

HERE IS A SITE THAT MIGHT HELP YOU. IT IS FREE.

http://www.studentloanborrowerassistance.org/

SOMETHING ELSE YOU CAN DO IS TO CALL BOTH OF YOUR SENATORS AND TELL THEM THAT YOU ARE AWARE OF THE SENATE INVESTIGATION THAT WAS DONE ON THE PRIVATE,FOR-PROFIT TRADE AND VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS THIS JULY AND AUGUST OF 2010 AND ALL THE CORRUPT PRACTICES THAT IT REVEALED. ALSO TELL THEM THAT AS A VICTIM OF THEIR DECEITFUL BUSINESS PRACTICES, YOU WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST THEM THAT YOU DO NOT WANT ANOTHER DOLLAR OF FEDERAL GRANT OR STUDENT LOAN FUNDING GOING TO THEM!

AND TELL ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS TO CALL TOO AND EVERYONE ELSE YOU KNOW.

WE CAN STOP THIS  ABUSE!
