My husband was being shipped of to Kuwait and I planned on moving back home while he was away. We called around for the best priced movig company and found one that gave us an estimate of $1000 to $1200 to move our things almost 1000 miles! We knew that was a great price.
When the movers came to pick up my things they asked for a down payment of $1500, this was when they weren't busy going through my refrigerator and bags of food in the kitchen eating what they felt like when we turned our backs, I told them that I was promised no more than a total charge of $1200 and that was all that I had to my name. So the moving guy calls someone up and tells me that that is just fine.
Then the movers show up to drop my belongings off at a storage that I had reserved wanting $2500!!! I told them I only had that $1200 that I had given them. Then after awhile they were like well we'll take $2000. So I got ripped off $800!!!
I ended up borrowing the extra from my family! I hope that no one has to go what I went through with this horrible company. I recommend just renting the uhaul and doing it all on your own. I thought having someone else move it would make it less stressful, but it was by far a lot more stressful than just doing it myself would be.

The DOT is so understaffed, they're not even able to enforce their own regulations, but you should call anyway
and register a complaint.
You should also file a complaint with the Attorney General of the state to which you moved.
