So, my Family and I have recently moved to Martinsburg, WV. because my job moved me here. As I am getting everything prepared after moving into my home I had to make a stop by the power company. To my surprise, my only option was Allegheny Power. I reluctantly made my incredibly large $250 deposit simply because I have never had them as a power provider before, even though I have good credit.

Our first month went by, which was only a 20 day billing cycle from Allegheny. I was a bit nervous to open the bill and too my surprise it was a mere $43! I was stoked!!!! I assumed my bill was only going to be a few more bucks the next month and that would be it.

The next month.......my bill was $284!!! This is including a $43 late charge that I should not have accrued simply because I paid the darn bill. I called the customer service department who seemed to be fairly helpful in the case of my astronomical bill. They told me that they only read meters every other month ( my first thought was shouldn't my bill be less expensive if you aren't paying people to do what every other power company does). No biggie though, she explained to me that all I had to do is go read my digital meter (btw: in Georgia, digital meters are read online and there is no need for a meter reader) and they would make the billing correction, too easy right?

So, we make the adjustment on the bill and she states that a new updated bill will be sent out. I brought back up the "overdue" payment of $43 and as we were speaking I logged into my bank account online. I scanned my past purchases and  lo and behold...there it was paid to Allegheny Power almost a week an a half prior to the phone call I was on. I told her I paid it through their very odd online payment thing and that I was looking directly at the closed transaction (not pending) that cleared nearly a week and a half ago. She told me that it probably had not cleared the bank yet and pretty much blew me off after that.

So about 5 or 6 days go by and we get the "updated" bill which was supposed to be $135 and its a magical $188. For, those of you who are reading this and passed the 5th grade...that means after 2 weeks the money from my account to Allegheny still hasn't cleared? Oh cointreau! If this bill goes to collections...which was threatened in the bill. I will be calling the Sec of State and writing a lovely letter to the BBB.

*Note* For everyone that has had problems with Allegheny. I have had issues with Georgia Power when I lived there and I called the Sec Of State and EVERYTHING was handled the same day. So my advice is, if you feel you are being ripped off by the power company, you need to contact the Sec of State. Trust, that will be my next phone call if my issue does not get resolved.
