We are extremely dissatisfied with the level of service, professionalism and courtesy that consultant (Alicia Green) and the head foreman (Alex), drop off dates were not what we requested, many items broken or damaged, missing items, overcharges, and none of the furniture was put back together. We also had to take apart some of the furniture. Alicia verbally assured us that the price included the dis-assembly and reassembly of furniture. Drop off date was communicated to the trucking company incorrectly- Alex persisted several times that they were doing us a favor by storing our belongings even though our contract states belongings will be stored for up to 30 days (included in price) We will also report this to the BBB and the IRS due to the questionable integrity of some of the workers Alex used. Two of the workers used for the packing and loading smelled of alcohol half way through the move , as well as left cigarette butts/trash on our property. (pictures available.) Alex threatened to withhold our belongings when we wanted to pay him after we saw the condition of our belongings and even had the trucking company drive away when we told them we wanted to see our belongings first.(Have available threatening text messages) We did express our frustration to Alicia multiple times; however, we left multiple messages on her voice mail with NO return calls. We also spoke with someone in attempt to cancel the entire move when they didn’t show the first day and were late the second. Unfortunately, this move and the problems remain unresolved, and to experience these issues with a company that is recommended by the Better business bureau and Angie’s list, is implausible.
To follow, are the problems that occurred in detail.
- When making the reservation, I told Alicia I had major concerns regarding this move. Including, lost and damaged items, everything had to fit on a truck, and I asked her that they will take apart and put back together the furniture. She said yes. I explained to her about issues we had with a previous move. She proceeded to tell me that everything would be ok, and she would make herself available the weekend of our actual move, in case we had any concerns or issues. She was absolutely great with reassurance and bragging that in the 5 or 6 years that she’s been working for the company she’s never had any issues. She also made sure she told us that we knew they go by the weight, which we clearly understood. Our estimate was much lower than the actual, but that was the only thing we were ok with. We understood we would have to pay the difference for the extra weight.
- No confirmation call from Alex (Alicia had told me that he would call us to confirm time) I called him on Saturday March 9th and Alex said he would be there Sunday between 9am-11am.
- Alex calls back Saturday, March 9th in the evening to say he wasn’t coming Sunday; it would be Monday
- On Monday March 11th, neither Alex nor Alicia called to say they were going to be late. We were told between 9am and 11am on Monday. At 11:15am we call Allegiant to cancel; however we were told Alex was on his way. We also called Alicia several times, leaving messages, and she called us back once, after Alex finally arrived.
- At 12:45pm Alex called saying he was lost. We tried to give him directions, however, he did not understand and I had to get him in the next subdivision over.
- No apologizes for being late or lack of navigation
- Showed Alex and crew everything; where everything was, including outside, all rooms, furniture, etc. Everything was to go on the truck.
- I questioned Alex before they started loading about the size of the truck. I thought it was too small. (This was our 3rd cross country move) Alex assured me everything would fit.
- The guys started immediately loading the truck; Alex asked us to take apart our office desk. We also had to take apart both bedroom furniture sets.
- Alex proceeded to make a “desk” using our end table and moving our personal belongings off our couch so he would be able to sit; asking would have been appropriate
- Alex proceeded to work on his “desk”, however, NOT on our move. He was working on paperwork and on the phone with someone from New York.
- Alex was on the phone constantly during the loading day; he also stormed out at one point yelling at whoever he was on the phone with. He did apologize and proceeded to explain why he was upset with the people on the phone to us; unprofessional
- Alex would periodically check on his crew but did not help them until about 5 pm or so
- I once again questioned Alex about the amount of room left on the truck and he told me not to worry (This was about half way through loading)
- Two of the 4 crew members took constant smoking breaks (approximately every hour or so) and left cigarette butts on our property along with an empty pack
- The same two crew members (who hardly spoke any English and did not understand us on several occasions) started smelling of alcohol about half way through our move.
- Once everything that could be fitted on the truck made it apparent that not all of our belongings would fit, Alex tried to convince us that we should fit the rest in our car. When we told him that would not work, he offered to come back at a later date, which is in clear breach of contract as our pickup days were March 10 and 11.
- Alex proceeded to tell us that it was our fault that item didn’t fit because they go by volume; Alicia assured me that everything would fit and they go by weight
- After they left, we took inventory of what was left over and we had to leave several things in our home in Arizona due to lack of space. We also found several things that were broken in the process of moving and we were never told (have pictures)
- During our load, Alex offered us a “verbal deal” to knock off $500 and for them to move our belongings into a storage unit in Illinois where we could get them on our own. We communicated this to Alicia and she had no idea what we were talking about.
- Once we reached Illinois we contacted Alex and told him we wanted our belongings delivered. We were then contacted by a NEW trucking company (I am guessing a subcontract) who tried to deliver our belongings several days early.
- Also, Alex told us several times that he was doing us a favor by “delaying” the delivery even though our contract clearly states we can store our belongings for up to 30 days included in the original price. This is again a clear breach of contract as we had our belongings delivered on 3/29/2013, well within the 30 day limit.
- Once we told Alex we wanted to see our belongings (and the condition of the truck) before we paid, he started threatening us and even had the driver drive away only to return later.
- The condition of our items was absolutely ridiculous, including several items that were damaged BEFORE packing, while Alex was moving them (the washer and dryer have paint markings on them matching our house in Arizona).
- Several well packed boxes were completely crushed and several sturdy items (plastic tool chest, metal barbeque, washer, dryer, bicycle) were damaged as they may have been tossed around with no regard
