I have a past due account with Home Depot/Citi Bank, which appears to have been turned over to a collection agency. To my knowledge, I have received no notification from Home Dept/Citi Bank that my account had been turned over to a collection agency called Alliance One. I have not received any written notification from Alliance One either. I received some blocked and some caller ID Alliance One calls, but did not call them back because I don't know who they are. I am not a minor, and have no one joint on this credit account.
Matt Laurie from Alliance One called my parents last night, and not only divulged my account status, but my account balance as well. He negotiated a payment plan with my parents, and even received and eft payment from my parents. My rights have been grossly violated. My private financial information was divulged to a third-party who has no legal obligations on this debt.

The OP's legal rights WERE VIOLATED..."IF"...

If this person is NOT a minor, and the account is NOT a joint account with the parents mentioned, this persons rights have been violated under the FDCPA.
It is a violation of the FDCPA for any third party collector to divulge account information, personal information, or a collections status to any third party.
If the collector did in fact do this, they are ripe to be sued.
Based on who the collector is, I believe the OP's side of the story.
Sue them now!

Your Rights Were NOT Violated

First of all, Home Depot does not have to notify you in any way that your account is going to collections. If an account goes into collections, Home Depot has made many efforts to collect the past due from you, or whomever represents you. I know this because it is expensive for Home Depot to turn over debt to a collection agency because they never collect the full amount; the collection agency purchases the debt at a discount from HD, or any company the collector represents and then makes money by collecting the full amount plus a processing fee usually.
If the collector was led to believe your parents represent you in this manner, your rights were again - not violated. You're more embarassed that your parents took care of this debt than your apparent anger directed at a collection agency. The fact your parents were ready, willing, and able to bail you out of the situation would seem to affirm their ability to represent you in financial matters.
Your parents are going to find out about your debts based on the collection calls they're going to receive on you. Your best course of action is to pay your bills.

Response to Crazy In, Iowa

I was never notified in writing from Alliance One...had no idea who they were. There messages left a toll free number with no information about why they were calling.
In the meantime, I had been in touch with Home Depot who did not advise me the account had been sent to a collection agency. Partial payment was sent to Home Depot along with my letter explaining the difficulties.
My parents did not falsely state they were me. The only thing Alliance One could do is to state they were trying to get ahold of me, and verify my address and phone number which they had on their records. To even state they were calling on a past due account was a violation of my consumer rights.

They had right

YOU decided not to answer your phone or call them back. They then had to find YOU some other way so they call your parents. How do you think bill collectors find you? I can almost guarantee your parents claimed they were you, being nosey, wanting to know what their child has gotten themself into. Knowing all your information, as most parents do, the collector didn't know any better but to believe they were you. That's illegal on your parents part, falsifying their identity to get information on another person. I'm surprised your parents are still bailing you out of your mistakes. Tell them they need to stop and let you grow up.

Had to Order Credit Report to Even Get Their Address

Since I have no idea who Alliance One is, and they appear to be calling my parents, I had to order a credit report to even get an address for the company!
