I work in A/P for a small company that had a Pitney Bowes Postage meter. The company downsized and we called PB not to renew the Postage meter.
Pitney Bowes was professional about this. In the meantime we began getting bills from PB for a lease and a rental, even though they had sent a box and return label for the unit.
The account was placed for collection erroneously and in one day we received 8 phone calls from Tony (badda bing) at Alliance One. He even called once and told us we were effing deadbeats.
I called the man back three times and he continuously hung up on me. He finally called again around 4PM and told me since this was "postage" and "federally related" he was sending the "postal inspectors and the FBI" up to "arrest me" for a federal crime.
I laughed at him and told him that since he threatened me, he needed to follow through with it. Needless to say I am shaking in my boots waiting for the FBI to show....LOL
I called the office of the President of Pitney Bowes (I used to work there) and spoke with a very professional gentleman who helped resolved the billing issue, ensured the pickup/return was in the works and apologized for this collection agency's tactics. (He was actually appalled).
He told me he would make sure this account was pulled from Alliance One, and the issue resolved. They even sent us a letter of apology.
An hour or so after I spoke to the president of PB's office, this Tony from Alliance One called back and cussed me out, called me every name in the book and told me he would make me pay for getting him in trouble, and to watch my back.
The funny thing is, is that I only WORK for the company in A/P. The account wasn't in my name, it was a corporate account, it was placed in error and PB apologized.
This Tony still calls occassionally.

Frank,
It seems that you have it under control. I'm glad to see someone stick it to them.
You knew right away you were dealing with morons, and acted accordingly.
I just love the "professional debt collector" rebuttal here [below].
This "professional" debtor does not know that the FDCPA only applies to individuals and consumer debt, NOT corporate debt/business accounts.
This "professional" also does not know how to spell or capitalize, etc. and refers to the FDCPA's CEASE COMMUNICATION REQUEST as a "cease & desist" request, and even mis-spelled that! Then she goes on to suggest "registered" mail, obviously not even knowing what registered mail really is. Certified mail / return reciept requested is the way to send those requests, NOT registered mail.
It's best to not even have communications with these morons.
File the FTC complaints for the illegal threats. Do this online in about 2 minutes.

I am a professional debt collector. I myself have alot of debt but none the less it is against FDCPA to threaten a consumer by any means. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulates 3rd party collection companies. You can google FDCPA also what I would recomend is writting whats called a ceist and desist letter and have it sent registered mail (where the company has to sign that they recieved it) also keep a copy for yourself also document any and every call u take from this company. save all voice mails and answering machine messages also file a complaint with the attorney general and bbb in ur state. hope this is helpful and remember not all debt collectors are rude and unhelpful and not all companies will put with with this type of behavior.
