I recieved a letter in the mail today, from allied interstate, saying that I have an outstanding debt that has been placed in their office for collection.
They say this is the beginning of the collection process, ... they gave me an online login and PW to pay it to an online paymment company.
they say if i dont respond they assume the debt is valid. i think they jsut want more contact info ya ?... like a phone # ...
and if i notify the office in writing within 30 days saying i dispute it, they will send me a copy of everything owed, and/or a judgment against me for verification. ...
few questions, please help, ... this is from BMG music ... the crap they just kept sending me after i had moved ...they dont have my SSN, so they cant touch my credt ... correct ?... all the have is my mailing address, and my name. where can they really go from there ?... any help is great ! thanks.

Jesse,
You never mentioned the amount of the alleged debt. This is very important. Very rarely will any third party collector/junk debt buyer sue on any amount less than $1000. And, they cannot LEGALLY get a judgement unless they sue you first.
That 30 day period means absolutely nothing at all and does not affect your rights in any way if you fail to respond in that time period.
At this point they are fishing, and providing false and misleading information to scare and confuse you in hopes that you will give them more information or even make a payment.
Cut off all contact, ignore them. The next letter you get, do not open it. Mark one line through your name/address and write "not at this address", "return to sender" and drop it in the big blue mailbox.
This is nothing to stress over. It is very unlikely they could even validate the debt, without your help!
