American Freight Furniture Co. American Freight of Livonia stole $1500 and counting!!! Livonia Michigan

On 5/24/08 I shopped at American Freight and put a sectional,2 end tables,center table and dining room set in layaway. I was assured that once I paid off the $959 the furniture would be delivered (for an additional $78). On 7/3/08, I paid off the remaning portion on the layway($658) with my bank card(big mistake) and was told that my sectional was not in call back in 2 days and it should be in. I was not happy about it because they told me that they had plenty in stock but I agreed to call back in 2 days.

I waited the two days and called back . I was then told that they were having a hard time getting the sectional but it would be in on 7/15/08 or i could come and pick something else out. I told the the salesman that I would wait until the 15th but it better come in then. Needless to say it did not come in that day and I requested a refund. I was told by Ace(Store Manager) that I would have to wait 2-3 weeks for my refund to come by check.

After a week I received a letter and a check for $300 from corporate stating that i would have to return to the store to receive my remaining refund back on my card because only the store manager can do that.

After 2 weeks of going back and forth with the Area Manager and Store Managers about getting my refund, both managers agreed that I was able to get the remaining amount in the store. When I gave the Asst. Manager my bank card to run the refund, he stated that " I was going to kill him because he ran it as a charge for $659 instead as a refund for $659". When i told him that would put my bank acct. in the negative, he stated that it wouldn't because he would run the refund for $1318 and it would clear up everything.

As of right now(8/2/08), there has been no refund to bank acct. and im currently being hit with a overdraft charge everyday. At this point I will see a lawyer to try and recover all my money.

The lesson of the story:
NEVER SHOP AT AMERICAN FREIGHT!!!!
