American Military University American Public University Financial Aid Office Nightmare Internet, Internet

Unfortunately, I enrolled at American Military University in January of 2012.  Although AMU processed my financial aid at the very last minute, I was able to start my classes on time.  In the last two sessions, I have not been so lucky.

I was supposed to start my second semester at AMU on May 5, 2012.  My financial aid packet never got processed.  As this is an online school with no official address, I can only send emails.  All of the emails I sent inquiring on my financial aid went unanswered.  When it was time for me to start my June classes, I emailed and told to go into my financial aid office and the 'financial aid officer' walked me step by step through the process and assured me that I would be able to start classes in June.  I was told my financial aid packet would be ready for approval by May 30th.  Next, I got an email telling me that I wasn't to go into my financial aid office at all.  I was told now everything is wrong and, as you may have guessed, classes have started and I am not taking them - again.

This school is a nightmare.  Speaking with the 'financial aid department' on the phone is a joke.  I have been walked through the financial aid process twice and each time, the work done is usually just enough to make sure my financial aid doesn't go through for the next semester.  Honestly, I have come to understand American Military University is a waste of time.  I am looking for a new, 'real' University.

If I can sue this school for wasting my time, I would gladly do so.  I was supposed to graduate this spring and I see that possibility slipping away.  The worst part is, that I have a 3.7 gpa and I could really get into some good graduate schools - if I could just get my Bachelor's degree.  That just won't happen at AMU.  The part that makes me angry is that schools looking at my records are going to ask me why I decided not to take classes.  It's not me.  American Military University has it set up so that you cannot attend classes until they are paid for.  I can't get into my classes to even inform my Professors that I am out here, trying to carrying on with the business of earning my degree.

The sad part is, this is the second school I have attended that has the degree I am looking for and a lousy financial aid department.  Right now, I am just another student who is having my financial aid held hostage.  Unfortunately, I pay a few school related expenses with my refund checks - like for my internet, phone, and a portion of my rent.  Because of this 2 month long delay, I may not just have to have my phone and internet shut off.  My landlord doesn't take partial rent payments.  I may lose my housing.

I don't really know what else to say.  If there is a lawyer out there who believes I have a case, give me a call.  I am, for some reason, getting the run around at AMU and it is going to cost me big time.  I grew up as a foster kid.  I don't have family that will take me in.  I have kept my nose clean, stayed out of trouble, and I am working hard to be the first person in my family with a Bachelor's degree.  American Military University is ruining my academic career.  I wish I had known this before I agreed to take classes at this University. 

All I can say is, if you are considering going to this school, please think again.  You will be so sorry.
