contracted them for move from Vt to Fl, sent deposit of $772. Was given dates of Sept 18 and 19 for move. It is important to note here that we initiated all the calls as to our move status, not the "moving service". We called early in the week and were assured that it was OK, we called on the 18th and were told between 12noon and 4pm on the 19th. Needles to say when the 19th arrived and we started calling we started to get the run around as to truck status.
First it was broken down, then it was in New Hampshire, then it was getting another truck. They don't own trucks, they just sub-contract to any one they can get. After repeated phone calls to their Hollywood ,Fl office and attempts to call New Mexico it became obvious that they had now intention of showing. They had no alternative dates for us even as late as the next Monday morn.
The most telling response we got was from Eli Ashkenazi of the Florida office was and I quote "put it public storage and we will pick it up sometime"???? I was under the impression that they were supposed to move us. We had a date to meet in Florida, they knew this and did nothing. We were accused of being impatient???? We asked for our money back and were laughed at by Eli of the Florida office. Surely Jeff Pearson of the office in New Mexico can not be surprised by this.
They have a Southwest BBB rating of AA and A West Palm Beach Fl BBB rating of "D". If you check the West Palm Beach BBB you will find 60 complaints of this nature and these are only the people who take action with complaints. The actual occurences are probably much worse. So they bid, accept deposits,no show, no action, no refund. Nice work for them, it bites for their "customers"

Common complaint

I have no relation with the moving broker mentioned in this complaint only a response. I do own a moving company and one of my estimators quoted this consumer on their move and was told our price was too high. This is a common answer to not only our estimates but many moving companies. American Moving Services us a broker that quotes ridiculously low almost near free moving quotes and only accept either wire transfers or checks for their deposit now if that isn't a red flag I don't know what is. But when we try to educate perspective clients that these "low ball" estimates are in most cases cheaper than renting a U-haul and doing it yourself, labor, fuel, tolls their reply is usually, "they quoted it so that's what I'll get moved for" which is quite the opposite. I mean come on people, you are told and it's almost cemented into you that it is almost impossible to move someone from Vermont (one of the hardest to service states int he U.S) to anywhere in the country but people want to bargain shop. Please do not think that I am trying to "I told you so" but really that is what it is, you get what you pay for and in this case you get nothing,no refund,no move from these cheats and certainly no customer service. It happens so often that people are getting quotes by us for $2,000.00 and tell us that another company quoted them $7-$800.00 for the same weight. WHAT??? Then these same people that were warned so-to-speak go online and complain that they were scammed, never picked up (if they're lucky) or grossly overcharged after they were picked up. I am sorry but I get told dozens of times daily how much higher we are than the other guy and we are far less than the major van lines and people need to wake up and do the math and realize that nobody is doing a move that you can't do yourself for less. Please, next time anyone quotes you 50% or more less than another company first research them deeper and second run, I would suggest the run part first. I am sorry that happened to you but just be thankful one of their horrible companies never picked you up or it would have been far more costly in the end.
