My daughter received a letter and an email that she had been nominated for what a Middle School age child would view as a great honor! Her older sister had been nominated a few years earlier and this was a great accomplishment! We followed all the rules, had the biography approved and sent the picture along with the check to pay for the picture being published with the bio, a plaque and a book. When we visited the site to check the status of the order the sight was one page with a message stating that the company was no longer in business and they were working to fullfill their final orders. I sent an email to them to inquire when I should expect a product or refund and of course never received a response. I would like to mention that my older daughter has the book and the plaque from a few years earlier, which only adds to my anger about the whole thing!

"Her older sister had been nominated a few years earlier and this was a great accomplishment!"

These Who's Who scams have been around for decades.  They are completely meaningless.   They prey upon the vanity of their "nominees".  Basically, anyone willing to put up the cash can be accepted into these "prestigious" organizations.   Back in the 80s, my roomate and I paid $30 to get my cat included in a Who's Who book.  We then contacted local "honorees" to let them know what good company they were keeping.

"I would like to mention that my older daughter has the book and the plaque from a few years earlier"

I would suggest that you advise her not to display that plaque where anyone can see it.  It's like a big sign that says, "I am vain and also gullible".

Go to the search box on this site and type in Who's Who.  There are 20 pages of reports on the numerous versions of this scam.
