I have been an american express card holder since 1986. I rent cars every month. I decided to add American Express car rental loss and damage insurance to my card. American Express automatically charges $24.95 when you rent a car, and by the policy you are insured against all kinds of losses. A year ago, November 1, 2010 to be exact,.I was in Costa Rico, and my car was broken into and my personal items as well as my daughters were taken. I called the police and filled a report. I filed my first claim of loss ever with American Express under my insurance policy. I have been given the total run around by American Express ever since. They have changed adjusters on me three times. They have made me file and refile paper work such as receipts for proof of purchase, police reports, affidavids, sworn statements that I had no other insurance covering these items, etc. each time claiming they never received it. My total claim is $1500. It has been over a year. There latest email denied my claim stating that I hadn't shown proof of a breakin. I have mailed the police report twice to them, and have emailed it to them. I am now completely convinced that their insurance is a scam, and impossible to ever collect. They probably think the amount is too small for my to take them to court.
