DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THESE IDIOTS. Blue Cross/Blue Shield has seeminly been bought out by a**hat morons by the name of ANTHEM. Our Blue Cross/Blue Shield coverage had expired at the end of Dec. '06 and switched over to Anthem WITHOUT ANY WARNING OR NOTIFICATION. I had gone to the doctor several times in January and even had several prescriptions filled.. but I had stopped in at Walgreens on Jan 30th, 2007 to get a REFILL on a perscription antibiotic that I had gotten originally on Jan 26th, 2007. First Walgreens (whole separate story) had actually RUN OUT of stupid antibiotics, sending me to a separate Walgreens in the next city over..

I stopped in and gave them my info and THEN they say that the insurance claim was denied because I was "expired".. I asked them what the h**l they were talking about as we have continuous coverage thru my husband's employer. Apparntly as of Jan 1st, asshats known as ANTHEM took over Blue Cross Blue Shield and after calling my husband on the phone about it he said he had JUST gotten the insurance card in! It took these jackoffs till JANUARY 30th to get us a d**n card, and they only sent ONE, apparently they FORGOT mine or whatever.

But that wasn't the end of it.. even after giving Walgreens the "updated" info they said it was still denied.. they called Anthem and waited on the phone FOREVER and told me that Anthem is one of the worst POS insurance companies and they hated dealing with them (WALGREENS SAID THIS!!) so they must really suck. Finally we got thru and we all found out they actually got my DATE OF BIRTH incorrect! I ended up wasting an HOUR AND A HALF due to some j*****f company (Anthem) that can't be bothered to send out insurance cards and can't type worth a crap? I'd be better off WITHOUT insurance than deal with dipsh***s like this.. at least my blood pressure would be lower. IDIOTS.

#11 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield is a horrible insurer!

AUTHOR: Burnt In Ohio - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Sunday, December 21, 2008

First I want to say that I am an ex-employee. I have no ax to grind. Just the truth. The plain truth about the organization. Needless to say, I don't know how any claims get paid at all. There is so much unorganization, and the messes are created by the system itself and the fact you have third party (India vendors) messing with the claims. Providers, members, and some employees with a conscience are fed up. I wouldn't recommend working there much less carrying their insurance. From what I understand, the issues started when Anthem decided to buy Wellpoint. The Wellpoint name was kept, as well as their garbage of a insurance claim system. Prior to that, Anthem was a very reliable insurance company. Many contracts are on the line with facilities and providers due to underpayment or no payment. I feel for those out there that have to deal with them.

Blue Cross Anthem

AUTHOR: Ian Chin - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, September 10, 2008

It should be noted that Anthem didn't take over Blue Cross / Blue Shield. All they did was change their name.

I'm an employer and we offer insurance through them to all of our full time associates. While we've never had a claim issue (that I know of) I do agree that contacting Anthem is extremely difficult. They have a horrible web site with incorrect phone numbers, re-spawning browser windows, and broken request forms.

ANTHEM INSURANCE now ILLEALLY charging me for 100% of office visit THEY should cover!!!

AUTHOR: Cheri - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, March 23, 2007

Not only did they screw us around above.. but..

Today we just got a BILL from them for 100% of a doctors visit! Apparently they decided to NOT cover any of my doctor's visits even tho we pay them and on my card it says they are supposed to cover EVERYTHING except $30 co-pay of the visit! These rip-off jerkwads are trying to rip us off again! Now this time for over $400 for a normal office visit (to have my ears cleaned to check for infection and a blood test!) Can you believe they are trying to pass us the bill for that crap? No way in hell!

We of course are having a hard time getting ahold of the company (because like I said before, even WALGREENS hates this company and said that they are the WORST insurance company to try to get ahold of). Obviously they don't care about their customers and are now attempting to illegal charge them for crap THEY should cover. STAY FAR FAR AWAY from these asshats.

Same thing happened to me.

We were insured through my husband's employer. I got pregnant in January and the employer changed the policy in April without telling us. I had to pay far more for my pregnancy than we, or my doctor, were originally informed. Our premiums also went up $100 a month.

Unfortunately, insurance companies do not have to send the new policies to the individuals insured, they send them to the employers to pass out. They should have to send us the policies and coverage info too. We only find out we are not covered when we get the Explanation of Benefits letter.

Actually Anthem DID take over and no we were not notified

AUTHOR: Cheri - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 31, 2007

I also had called and talked to Blue Cross and Blue Shield and if you call their number now they report their company name as "Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield". also it is reflected on the anthem.com website, everything points to them being taken over by nitwits.

We were not notified by our employer nor by the company of this take over. The employer might not have known either since Anthem is notorious for not giving information to ANYONE in a timely manner.

But thanks for the comment!

Is it POSSIBLE that....

AUTHOR: Thomas - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Wednesday, January 31, 2007

your husband's employer "got a better deal" (aka cheaper insurance costs) by switching from BC/BS to Anthem? I doubt BC/BS was "taken over" by Anthem.

Employee health insurance is a very expensive benefit, and someone at your husband's employer may have won a big bonus by switching to a less expensive provider. But then your husband should have been notified....
