Ever since I cancelled my membership with AOL about a year ago they continue to send me their software in the mail trying to re-gain my business. I have called the company on a number of occasions requesting to be re-moved from there mailing list and call list. They still don't have a clue and send me there useless software. Don't use AOL on your computer because it will make your computer worse. In fine print in there software package it states the following..."AOL may optimize some of your computer settings to enhance your experience on AOL."
AOL has a interesting billing system. Make sure to read all the fine print especially if you are considering signing up for one of there so-called "90 Days risk-free" deals. Also beware of the famous selling trick they use by advertising "New features included! No credit card required!" Byer beware, when you install the software to activate your product you have to give AOL a credit card number.
Do not give AOL any personal information. You will never get off their list and their billing department is terrible.
I am happy with my DSL connection and will never go back to dial up service.

I am sure at one time AOL was a good product. All I know is after I installed it on my computer, my computer never ran the same. I started asking around and several people had the same problems. If you want to use AOL that is your choice. I just wanted people to know about my own personal experience. I use DSL and will never go back to dial up services.
If you give AOL your credit card number make sure you check your statements. I quote the following from AOL fine print billing statement in there "90 days risk-free" offer:
"If you are not satisfied with AOL for any reason, just call 1-888-211-3926 within 90 days of registration to cancel your account and request a refund of your AOL monthly membership fees. Your AOL account must be in good standing and only the paid standard AOL monthly membership fees will be refunded. Other costs, including dial-up charges, hourly fees, premioum service charges, will not be refunded. You must use the enclosed registration number and passorword to sign up for the AOL service to be eligible for this guarantee. Refund will be credited to your AOL billing method on file within 2 to 3 billing cycles...Members using a dial up access may incur charges on their phone bills depending on calling plan and location..."
My computer works much better without AOL software. My phone bill is not as high.
It took me forever to get the software off my computer. I had to do a complete system re-install and then go deep into the hard drive and delete the registry to completly remove the AOL software. When I had called AOL and told them what happend after I tried to uninstall there software they wouldn't give me a straight forward answer. When they tried to transfer me to another department that might be able to help me I was hung up on during the transfer.
As I said before, If you want to use AOL it is your choice. Read the fine print, make a back up of your computer system and use this software at your own risk.

AOL is not worth $23 or the new rate of $25 per month, BUT, I have recently opted out and tried:
MSN
NetZero
PeoplePC
and frankly I didn't care for any of these and I am now back on one of the introductory AOL packages.
AOL is overpriced BUT I like them better than the other services. In another 49 days I will have to decide to stay or go (again), probably I will threaten to quit and get a reduced rate from them and stay.
