Several years ago I joined Area Circulation thinking it was a good deal. To be honest I dont remember what exactly happened but I remember being very upset with the service and having to call them several times. Eventually I wanted to cancel my subscription but was told I had to pay out the remainder of my bill...so I did. And I expected to never hear from them again. But instead I hear from them several times a year even though each time I ask them to take my number off their list and I refuse anything they are offereing.
About a week ago I get a call from them telling me that I agreed to renew at the end of my subscription...I immediately told them to cancel it for good! The guy simply said ok and hung up, so I have found my last bill and it specifically says when my FINAL PAYMENT was due. It says NOTHING about a renewel. FINAL means FINAL! And that was 03/01/05.
So today I tried calling the number on my bill AND the customer service number and got no answer....although I assume they may be taking off for Jan. 1st, I'll give them that and will be calling again 1st thing in the morning. I just wanted to warn people that you cant get rid of this company! I dont know of anyone that has had a good experience with them. I type Area Circulation into google and this RIPoff site is the 2nd site listed....I think that says alot about the company. If I have to personally go to the media or report them to the BBB I will, this company should be ashamed and know when to just leave people ALONE!

Interesting read
I am familiar with Area Circulation and IMA International Marketing Association /CRC Community Reading Club.
The BBB is not the best place to go to file a complaint. You can but my advice is to go to your states Attorney General with your complaint.
I worked for a company like this. We would get tons of BBB letters. Nothing scares a company like that more than the Attorney General.
Basically you the consumer are pushed into something you don't want. You have the right to cancel as well as given a full refund.
If you ask them to cancel your account they will not. In fact they will run you in circles.
Ask them " yes or no can I cancel?"
They have to say yes. But they will do everything to get your mind off of canceling.
They will have you believe that they have already prepaid the publishers up front for the entire service of magazines which will come to hundreds of dollars.
Now expect them to try and settle out your account. Say you owe a total of $900 for a 5 year service they will often times settle for more than half that given you can pay all at once. I have settled out accounts for way less just to get some money.
They cover there tracks with verification tapes but it is how they go about the whole sales process which is very manipulative.
I have heard verification tapes where the customer being sold the product was pushed the the verification tape so fast they didnt understand what was going on.
The sales rep makes sure you repeat what they say.
I will tell you this from my experience and the experience of friends who work for certain companies.... about 60% or more of the customers are coached through the process and into the sale.
Now don't just let this happen. Contact your attorney general contact the
Federal Trade Commission.
If everyone can come together we can put a stop to companies doing business like this.
