As a graduate of At-Home Professions, I have not been able to find a job! I have been done with medical transcriptioning school for a few years. I have applied to hundreds of physician's offices. Just about everyone has switched over to EMR's, which replaces the role of a medical transcriptionist.
At-Home Professions will go around the United States setting up seminars promising people (and stay at home moms love this):
Work from Home
Set your own hours
Make alot of money
Demand for this career is very high.
Employement opportunities will be so high by the year 2014.
Well, $2500 later spent on their schooling, I can testify this is not true at all. The demand and job opportunities for this career are poor.
There are still some hospitals that use medical transcriptionists, and some older doctor offices that are close to retirement and do not want to invest the time and money into electronic records may use a medical transcriptionist, but overall MOST PHYSICIAN OFFICES have switched to ALL ELECTRONIC RECORDS, making it very difficult for a graudate to get a job as a medical transcriptionist.
And watch out for medical transcription service companies! Yes, they are out there. But for a new graduate to find a job with a transcription service company is extremely difficult, as they require atleast 3 to 5 years of acute care experience to consider you for employment.
Overall, I am extremely disappointed that I was suckered in by At-Home Professions. I spent alot of money and wasted alot of years searching for a job that is being replaced by EMRs. Hopefully, At-Home Professions will give refunds to all of those who took a chance on them, and it backfired.

#2 Consumer Comment
Not a scam

Good afternoon,
I have read the many negative reviews on this site and would like to make a comment if I may. I was a successful graduate of the At-home professions medical coding and billing specialist program and was able to land a job relatively quickly with some effort and time from my end. Many times these are labeled as rip-offs and scams due to higher than intended expectations. As many of you will notice if you actually read all the details without simply scanning and picking what looks appealing about an ad or company you see the truth. At-Home professions runs statistics to show what a successful candidate can make but does not guarantee you will get a job and make tons of money after completing their program. A true scam would have had to have changed names or moved by now due to lawsuits, and other issues.
This is neither a scam nor a rip-off but more a matter of many people seeing a few words that make them think they are getting to come straight out of the program and make big money at home. The problem is not At-home professions but the consumer. You should research the demand in your area and contact a few companies before making such financial and life changes. The more you know the better your odds are of not having a poor results. Their is money to be made and you can be successful but no college, company, or business is going to do the research nor, hold your hand. Do some research and know all of what you are getting into before getting onboard.
Best reagrds,
Cosimo J. Bressi Jr
