There were 2 guys in a van who pulled next to me in Walmart parking lot. Asked I needed a Home Theraer system. They both had uniforms and showed me an invoice from their company.
Stated they had a system that was not deliverable due to the home owner changed his mind. Said his boss told him to sell it as his end of year bonus. No time to take it home as he had another call to do in 20 minutes. Showed me the Cayman Media Labs HD51 system and the retail price on the package of $2893.
Also had a projector and screen priced at $7000. Said he would open the box so I could see contents, which he did. The unit looked good. He was very friendly and seemed legit.
I offered him $300 and he wanted more but I was not interested as I only needed a theater system.
Should have noticed no tools in the truck but was just stupid. I have the unit and paid $300. Now I see them on Ebay for $250 and no rel reviews about the units anywhere.
Just goes to show, a deal that seems to good to be true is never what it seems. Just hope he is prepared for his final jusgement.
Being retired and money tight has taught a good lesson.

They seemed legit...LOL

So some guy pulling up to you in a Walmart parking lot wanting to sell two very high end items worth just short of $10,000 and you offered him $300. Yet even though that is about 3% of the retail value they accept it because you think it is legitimate. Even if you were only talking the Home Theater that is still 90% off of the retail price.
Okay...let me just sit back and let you think about that for a few minutes while I Laugh my head off.
I am really not trying to come down on you, but in what scenario does this seem legitimate? There are two ways this could have gone. You geting scammed, or you getting arrested because the items were actually stolen goods. Luckily for you it was the former and not the later, where all you have lost is a few hundred dollars intstead of your freedom.
Oh and yes I know you figured that they were totally honest, and the real fact is that why these scams work is because they rely on your greed..yes greed. After all even if you had an inkling it was a scam the desire to "get a good deal" overrides that and this is what these scammers rely on.
Because what was the first thing you did...go onto Ebay most likely to see how good of a deal you got, and being totally honest with yourself probably to see if you can sell it for more. But then when you did only to have reality hit you in the face when you realize that not only did you get scammed, but the others that got scammed ended up losing a lot less.
