So while you haven't heard of her a lot of people have. And a lot of stations and papers pay her to be on their station/paper. I guess if you want more info you can look at Wiki or her site. But then again you probably won't as you consider yourself the complete expert.

And 'll ask again: why did you feel the need to focus on her age? Do you feel that people over a certain age aren't reliable sources of info?

I lived in the Phoenix area for a few years and never heard of Kim Komando.

I spent 10 years in the military and am familiar with the Armed Forces network, but never heard of Kim Komando.

I worked in Radio, on AM in Las Vegas, and never heard of Kim Komando.

I have lived all over the country and have travelled the world, and guess what, still never heard of Kim Komando.

And, I never saw her as a guest speaker at any major event like the CES show in Las Vegas, etc.

I am 47 years old, and have never heard of Kim Komando. What does that tell you?

Why is that?

What are her actual credentials. Where was she trained? What has she designed? What has she actually accomplished on her own and not only because she is hot.

I have been heavily involved in computers since the 286 was new. I was on the internet before many people ever heard of it. Big deal. Means nothing. Just like Kim Komando.

Wow, your post is so wrong I'm not sure where to start. Kim Komando is actually based in Phoenix, AZ. Her radio show is broadcast throughout the United States and carried by the Armed Forces Radio Network. So she does have a nationwide and worldwide voice. She is acknowledged as a leading expert on all things digital. Several large companies will send her their new products for evaluation, hoping to gain her approval. She is an expert at helping people with problems with any of their digital equipment especially computers. And yet all you can "supposedly" find out about her is one radio station that carries her. She is definately more of an expert in her field than you will ever be in yours.

And yet you seem concerned with her age. Why does it matter that's she's 43. Is that too old to know about computers? Too young for her opinion to be of any value? Or just too smart to be a woman? Interesting that you seem to want to discard her proven expertise and advice but want people to listen to yours, even when you advise them to break the law (CVS report).

Never heard of this Kim Komando you speak of, so her recommendation of AVG means absolutely nothing to me.

It's not like she is some nationwide or worldwide voice, or authority.

But I did look her up online. She is on AM radio in some small town in VT and she is 43 years old.

Still means nothing.

I've used AVG on many different computers and never had a problem.  I don't remember the last time I had a virus (except once last year when I let AVG get seriously out of date - my fault).

In my opinion it's a good product.

I've used AVG for 7 years now and have never had a problem with any infections. It's a great product. Well supported by the company and with a recommendation from Kim Komando, I'd use this product before one she hadn't recommended. Especially one that wanted me to pay for their service.

Just the principal alone here amuses me to no end.

Probably never. Windows 98? Give me a break. Who in the hell would still use Windows98? The answer here is ONLY a genuine loser. A tightwad.

And, responding to "CY" in the above response, you are absolutely correct about AVG and Norton. I tried AVG on 3 different occasions and on all 3 occasions, got infected. Then with Norton. I got my computer totally wiped out! And, I did updates every day, and scans no less than once per week. Norton sucks worse than AVG!

I wanted to point out a few things.

 1. I have taken classes in Malware Removal and while reviewing virus logs, the majority of infected users used either AVG, Norton or no AV at all. This leads to me to believe that AVG had very bad detections rates. This is based solely on my observations, but also based on hundreds of infected users logs I had to work with. I tried AVG once myself (for about a week), on my laptop, and quickly removed do to frequent false positives.

2. Using AVG free on a business PC is a violation of AVG's TOS. I'm not surprised they did not respond to help you.

3. W98SE is SERIOUSLY out of date. If you use this PC to conduct business,like it looks like you do, (and now without an AV) you NEED to purchase a new PC (you can even buy a refurb). Being so out of date and with the lack of protection can leave your PC very compromised and open for attack. I strongly urge you to buy a new PC, you would not want to risk getting your personal, business and possibly financial information stolen due to the lack of protection.

How could ANYONE use a 10+ year old computer with Win98 to run a business??

Buy an up to date computer for like $400 and be done with it!

AVG is one of the top anti-virus providers. It's a great product, it's free and it's endorsed byKim Komando on her website. Why pay for a product when you can get a free one?

The real problem here is not AVG but that they're still using Windows98 which no one (including Microsoft) supports anymore.

WHY would you use a FREE service for a BUSINESS COMPUTER?

You are complaining about bad service that is FREE?

Have you ever heard the old saying that "you get what you pay for"?

You can go on Ebay, and many other sites and buy full featured programs for $10-$15. Are you really that much of a loser?

The system requirements are noted on the AVG web site. Maybe it's time to get rid of the bell bottoms and that dial phone.

Just so I get this right, you are complaining about a FREE Anti-Virus package that does not work on an Operating System that is over 10 years old?

Microsoft doesn't even support Windows 98SE anymore, they ended support in July of 2006.  As far a I can tell AVG hasn't supported Windows 98SE for a while.  So you probably had a very old version.

Unless you are running some proprietary software that will not run on a newer version I can see no reason you need to be running Windows 98.  If your computer is anywhere near as old as your Windows Version, quite frankly it has more value as a paperweight or doorstop right now.  You can buy one a totally new one for around $200.

I wonder what resolution do you want them to provide?

Maybe it's time you updated your system and/or computer. I doubt many companies out there still support Windows98.
