I purchased from ebay 18 free rental day coupons from Avis through their meeting and group travel program which were supposedly valid till Nov. 2009.
I received a verification of my reservation which included the coupon code listed on the coupons. I was informed 3 weeks later by a friend who had purchased the same type of coupon that she had been told they were invalid.

I emailed avis and was informed they had pulled the coupons because they felt they had been reproduced and were being used fraudulently. I feel that the company should have informed those of us with confirmed reservations since the reservation plainly states the coupon is being used.
The company requested I send them the coupons so they could verify if they had been reproduced. I sent one coupon and a copy of my confirmed reservation to the Tulsa address and they have not bothered to reply.
I have also contacted ebay, paypal and the person who had the coupons on the ebay site. It seems no one feels any responsibility. BEWARE,BEWARE,BEWARE

What if they are indeed counterfeit coupons? Why should the company honor counterfeit coupons that are being sold on ebay?

Shouldn't this complaint be about the person who sold you fraudulent coupons?

If..

This is becoming a very common scam. Take a look at the recent news about Oprah and Free Chicken. Who announced it..Oprah, who duplicated the coupons...dozens of Forums and Internet sites, who got all of the bad press..KFC.

People obtain a coupon and decide to "duplicate" it, against the policy of the company issuing the coupon. They will then either try and use it multiple times, or "sell" the codes. I think I see about one notice a week at various stores explaining that they can no longer accept specific coupons because of the fraudulent duplication.

Why didn't AVIS tell you right away, most likely because it wasn't noticed. But if they all of the sudden get 1-2 hundred people using a code that was issued ONE time that raises flags.

If it was not a duplicated coupon and used within the terms of the offer, then AVIS should make it right. But if the coupon was duplicated the RipOff Report you should be writing is on the E-Bay user who sold you the "coupons".
