Balleys Total Fitness rip-off Worcester Massachusetts

I signed up at Balley's in Worcester MA. and my licence had my address which showed that I lived more than 25 miles away.After about 12 months I needed to cancel my membership because It was to much to travel and I was also moving to another town so I informed the person working in the Balleys office that I would be cancelling my membership and they never said that I had to send anything in writing they took a photocopy of my licence to show that I lived more than 25 miles from the gym and said that that would be enough for me to cancell.

Well, about six months later I got a letter form a collection agency stating that I owed them almost $400.00. Without my knowledge they reported this to the credit bureau and never contacted me stating that there was a problem with my cancelation.

I was told that my membership was never canceled, and this is an open account and they were unable to cancel it.

I was also told that I could only cancel my account in writing and this was on the contract. I was never told this by the saleperson, or by the person I spoke to when I cancelled my account. This is such a scam they never explained all the details.

If there are other people out there who have been sucked into this trap please fight back and add your comments to this website. There are also other gyms out there that don't require you to sign a "shady contract" stick to those gyms.
