I will never forget what a joke Bally's Total Fitness is. Me and my boyfriend back in 2000 were looking to join a gym to get into shape. I called them and spoke to a salesperson who's name I think was Steve at the time but not totally sure. He wouldn't give me any pricing over the phone so we had to come in but said he would get us a "great deal" (what a joke!!!).

We arrived and were given a tour of the gym and sat down in his office where he told us membership would be 43.00 per person per month with a 3 year contract. What a joke! I said that was way too high and we weren't interested in that long of a commitment. He then went off and said that our health is important and that cost shouldn't be an issue. Our health wasn't the issue he just wanted the sale. So I told him it was too much and that we would not sign up for that. He then offered is a lower rate but we would have to work out off-peak hours. As we were about to leave he called in his manager-some tacky aggressive guy who sounded like a car salesman.

Again, he had no interest in our financial needs or what we could afford, they just wanted the sale. We left and told them we were not interested. We went to Gold's gym, had an absolutely pleasant experience, signed up for 23.00 per month, 23.00 down only a 1 year contract. Since my year has been up for a while, I was renewed on a month to month basis and have been with Golds since. Probably the gym that has given me the least amount of hassle over the years and they are open 24 hours and right by my house.

The next day the snakey salesperson from Bally's called me and wanted to renegotiate and I told him we had already signed with Gold's and he should have been more considerate and professional when we were there. I told him please never to call me again.

I would NEVER walk into a Bally's again because of this. They suck!

#4 Consumer Suggestion

When they won't tell you the price, it can only mean one thing. It's so high they'll have to talk you into it.

Anybody who hides the price like this is telling me one thing loud and clear.

The price is so d**n high that you'd have to be crazy to agree to it.

That's why they need to get you into the place. Back you into a corner and apply psychological pressure until you give in.

Anytime you ask the price and they refuse to answer, tell them: Oh, that's more than I can afford.

Salesman: What are you talking about? I never gave you a number yet.

Victim: Sure you did! By not telling me the actual number, you told me that the price was sky high. No thanks!

Show them you're not stupid. Show them you understand the sales game as well as they do.

Frauds and con artists never come right out and tell you the truth. They try to hide the facts in double-speak and spin. You need to understand all this in order to be on an even footing with these frauds.

It Happened To Me Too at The Same Location...

AUTHOR: Beth - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Friday, February 25, 2005

In response to this rip off report filed; I too have fallen victim to the exact same situation. Bally's Total Fitness has actually sold my account to another company so they could get their money on the contract they supposedly had with me. I am now being sued by the third party company they sold the account to stating that I failed to pay for certain services & monies provided in the contract, in which they did not provide any service to me. I am not contacting the third party agency for a settlement, I am fighting the allegation & filing a counter suit naming both Bally's Total Fitness & the third party agency as defendants. If there is any one in AZ that has experienced this same or similar situation with Bally's Total Fitness & would like to be a witness, either through a court appearance or a written & notarized letter of testimony please email me. I will also be more than willing to assist anyone else in the same way (testimony against the company) in order to help alleviate the situation for good. This company is scandalous!
