Bally's Total Fitness Identity Theft - Bally's of NO Help! San Diego Nationwide

In 2000 my husband and I applied at our local Bally's Total Fitness. We filled out the standard membership form and signed it. We have since paid both memberships in full.

Fast forward to June 2005, I am contacted by a California police department's Identity Theft Division to inform me that a woman was caught using my personal information to open accounts in my name. How did she come by this information? She had a copy of page 2 of my Bally's membership application! This page included my full name, home address, phone numbers, signature, social security number, date of birth and an imprint of my credit card. Hmm, wonder how far she can get with that?

In contacting Bally's corporate office to get information on how something like this could have occurred I have gotten NO assistance from them or even the slightest concern that any number of other member's personal information may have been compromised. I have been told to write their corporate office a letter addressed to the general "Correspondence" department. They cannot even tell me what their company policy is on securing member's personal information or their policy on anything else. I'll just have to write a letter....

This woman, and possibly anyone else who has received a copy of my information, has the potential to reek serious, long-term havoc on my financial and personal life in addition to the problems she has already caused. And their corporate customer service rep. flippantly tells me that she's sorry IF I've experienced any inconvenience. Ugh, thanks.
