I am a BoA customer but am changing that soon. I too have had problems with cash deposits being put on "hold". I have had to pay nsf fees due to this. I made a cash deposit on friday and on monday had checks items returned nsf because i was told by employee at customer service that my cash deposit would not post till midnight monday night. Hello it was a cash deposit and i was told at the branch that cash deposits were immediate.
Well people they are not and if you are thinking of opening an account with BoA please do not it will end up costing you more than you know. As for their employees just read their responses to these complaints and you can see for yourself that they are infantile. Bank of America are theives.

And...Candace is still avoiding the important questions asked!

Candace,
Funds availabilty rules are further determined by your account status on top of the basic rules.
I asked if there were prior NSF issues with this account, and also the age of the account.
Knowing BofA as I do, I would bet that you have had prior NSF issues with this account, AND the account is still considered to be a probationary account, being less than 1 year old.
I would love to see you last 6 monthly statements.

Sherri...CA always does things different!

Sherri,
I don't doubt what you are telling me at all.
CA businesses are always different from everywhere else!
Usually 2-4pm is the standard in most places, and I know there are exceptions to every rule.
We got off the main subject here anyway.
The point is, I never take someones word for anything that can cost me money. That is the lesson here.
The OP spent money she did not have because she assumed the info she had was correct. She should have verified that the deposit was posted BEFORE spending the money.
This is what I would do if my account was that low on funds.
This is probably why I have never paid an NSF fee in 15+ years at BofA!

MOST OF THE ONES HERE ARE 4 PM CUT-OFF

IF you go in the branch where I have a CD and small money market account. (6 PM) on Friday. ATM cut off is 5 PM (Monday-Thursday), 7 PM on Friday. BUT...if I use the supermarket branch at Albertson's, the cut-off time is 3 PM for in-branch, 5 PM for ATM. When I go to visit my family in Georgia, cut-off time seems to be 2 PM outside of Atlanta, but 4 PM within the city limits. Guess it depends on which processing center the "work" goes to.

STEVE, CUT-OFF TIMES VARY FROM AREA TO AREA
AUTHOR: Sherri - (U.S.A.)
SUBMITTED: Saturday, March 11, 2006
I was with BOA several years and one branch would have a cut off of 4 PM (6 PM on Fridays), but a branch four blocks away would have a 3 PM cut off for in-branch transactions and 5 PM for ATM. For awhile, BOA had a cut-off time of 6 PM Monday-Thursday and 7 PM on Friday, at least in Northern California. They didn't do that for too long, but it sure was convenient. The best policy is to ask when the deposit will post, since there really isn't too much consistency.. what may be policy at one BOA may not be policy at the next branch down.

Sat and Sun are not business days for posting purposes.
Candace..you avoided my questions as to the age of your account, and if you ever had an NSF situation on that account before.
A deposit after 2pm FRI would be available after 2pm MON, UNLESS you have a new account that is less than 1 year old, or have had a prior NSF situation.
It's funny that in my 15+ years with BofA I have never had this problem. I have deposited checks up to $13,500 that have been available next day!
I have a seasoned account and have never had an NSF situation.
Also, NEVER take someone's word for when something will post. Wait until it does, and then write your check! Magic! No NSF!

At what time did you make the deposit?
AUTHOR: Leticia - (U.S.A.)

Most banks have the policy that all deposits will not be credited until the next business day if made after a certain time. (My bank's time is 4PM.)
So if you made it after that time, yes it should have posted at midnight had the next day been a business day, but even though banks are opened on Saturdays (and some on Sundays) those are not considered Business days, so your deposit would not post until midnight monday morning.

I had a positive balance when i made the deposit and i made the deposit at the counter i never deposit through the atm. There is no reason my deposit should have waited three days to post other than the bank is run by crooks. Again thank you for your response but i am turning them in to every agency i know with a copy of my bank statement after i close it and go to a real bank. They are theives taking peoples hard earned money.

Candace, look a little closer at this
AUTHOR: Steve - (U.S.A.)

Candace,
I have been with Bank of America for 15 years and have never had a problem. And this gives me some insight on how the bank works.
There is another variable here that we are not getting from your post.
How old is your BofA account?
Have you had NSF situations before.
Was the deposit at the counter or at the ATM?
Was the deposit all cash, or cash and a check?
Funds availability rules differ depending on the status of your account.
Why not just wait until the funds clear before writing checks? You had the cash in your hand you could have kept for immediate needs until the rest of it cleared.
This just doesn't make sense, and I think there is more to the story. I think you had and NSF situation at the time you made the deposit and were trying to cover the problem you already had.
