Bank of America will pick and choose in what order charges appear on your statement, in order to charge overdraft fees. They intentionally re-order the largest amount first regardless of date made, and even whether anything has actually posted or not.

Bank of America will charge an overdraft fee when the system they use, (not available for view by customers), says that you have overdrawn your account. Even when the direct website www.bankofamerica.com says there is money available.

When you accidentally go over by a dollar or two the bank does not give you a chance to put funds in the account because they immediately charge you an insufficient funds fee before the transaction even shows as pending.

With the re-ordering of posts and they immediate NSF charge they have turned one small overdraft into seven. They have done this to me and my wife several times. there have been many times we would check our balance and then the next day ( even without spending a dime ) our balance wound be at negative 300 dollars.

Keep the change is a bad idea if you do not have a large safety net in the bank it provides an easy opportunity to charge you a 10 dollar fee for transfering the keep the change that has not even hit your savings account where you can transfer it yourself.

So you think its fine for a company to charge a NSF fee when they haven't paid out a thing? I understand a fee for when the bank "loans" you money to cover a debit you didn't have money for, but not when thy dont do anything but subtract $35 dollars for. Also I spoke with someone from the bank this is a new policy, which I was never notified of BTW. No two employees could tell me the same date it was instituted. Ok so you both owe me $200.00 because I say I'll cover the bills you paid this month, when in fact I did nothing.

Why???

Why are you spending money you don't have in the first place?

Honestly, if you had the money in the bank for all of your bills and charges in the first place then you wouldn't even be having this problem. All this is is that you're complaining that your bank charges you when you spend more money than you have. That's not the bank's problem, that's your money mismanagement, I hate to tell you.

"Bank of America will pick and choose in what order charges appear on your statement, in order to charge overdraft fees."
-NO As you said they post highest to lowest. It is always this way they don't just randomly change this posting order as part of some vast backroom conspiracy. This has been the way it has been done for at least a couple of decades.

"Even when the direct website www.bankofamerica.com says there is money available."
- On-Line banking should only be used as a reference to verify what you have in your register. You should never rely on anything except YOUR register. Only your register knows what you have spent and has not posted yet. You have to figure that the second you swipe your debit card or write a check the money is gone from your account.

"When you accidentally go over by a dollar or two the bank does not give you a chance to put funds in the account because they immediately charge you an insufficient funds fee before the transaction even shows as pending."
- The days of the float are gone. As I said the second you swipe your card or write a check you have to assume that the money is gone from your account. Keeping a register will help you track your exact balance for you. If you refuse to keep a register then immediatly cut up your Debit Card. I would venture a guess that it was probably a few small debit card purchases that caused you to overdraft. Instead go back to the good ol' days and use cash. Just try and walk into your local coffee house and purchase a $5 cup of coffee with $3.

"They have done this to me and my wife several times."
- It is your responsibility to know the posting policies of the bank. You obviously know what the policy is now, since you wrote it in your post. Knowledge is power so these fees should be very easy for you to avoid from now on. But if you fail to change your ways don't expect the end result to be any different.
