I have done work with Barrister a few times. I did see the complaints about Barrister not paying their technicians or coming up with excuses not to pay, but I thought I would give them a chance. Everything was good up until this last job I completed for them. It was installing new registers overnight at a Lowes facility in Missouri, contracted through Barrister for NCR.. I agreed to speed pay, in which they deduct 13% of your initial hourly pay in order to get paid within 7 days. When I got paid, they shorted me an additional 13% equalling $47. When I contacted them about the difference, eventually (days later), they came up with an excuse that I did not return parts for a job I did back in June. Luckily, I keep a record of every email, every assignment, and every label with every tracking number. I sent them back the tracking number. The parts were returned in June by Fed Ex. Now their excuse is there was only one package. One part was a small motor assembly, the other a small spring. They sent one label for both parts. Both parts fit in a small box. They refuse to pay me what they owe me.

I have seen in the other ripoff report complaints how they keep coming up with rebuttals about this and that. Well, I can prove everything I state is true. As I said previously, I have every document and every email from every transaction I have ever done with Barrister. All I want is my $47 that I have coming. If I ever get paid, I will update this complaint. Until then I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANY TECHNICIAN TO CONTRACT WITH BARRISTER.

Even after documentation, still refuse to pay

AUTHOR: Theresa - ()

POSTED: Wednesday, November 27, 2013

I have sent proof of parts being sent back, even verified with FedEx that they were returned back in June. I have all the documentation I need to prove I was wronged. No matter what proof I have, Barrister just comes up with another reason not to pay what they owe me. Apparently they need the 47 dollars more than I do.

Procedure

When Barrister offers an assignment to a subcontractor all terms and conditions are sent to him/her in an email with the assignment. It is made very clear in the documents that failure to return parts will result in the technician being charged. Barrister faces charges for non-returned parts and we count on our contracted techs to fulfill the job assignments and return the good unused or used parts using labels sent from the vendor who provides the parts. When the tech fails to do so, he/she is charged back for the cost of the part. The technician filing this complaint says that "everything was fine for a while"....but, suddenly Barrister has failed to pay him because he did not return a part. Everything was fine and payments were made promptly because the technician completed the assignments and returned the parts. He knew and understood what needed to be done and when he did it there were no payment issues. A failure by the tech to comply with requirements he clearly understood, as he had done work and been paid promptly and correctly, does not constitute a "rip off" by Barrister. What this post tells us is that this individual likely did not return the parts correctly causing him to be charged for the part not returned. The tech should submit all supporting documentation he claims to have to show he returned everything on time and correctly to payissues@barrister.com, fully explain the issue and his desired result, and allow us the opportunity to assist him. It sounds from his post as if several people at Barrister did try to assist him and he just did not have the proper information to support the part was returned causing Barrister to pay for a part and Barrister to pass along that cost to him, as it clearly states will be done in each and every dispatch emailed to a tech upon accepting assignment. Barrister has not "ripped off" this tech or any tech. In the few instances where a tech is not paid or, as in this case, charged back for non-return of a part, it is done after making numerous efforts to remind the tech to return the part or provide what is needed to facilitate payment. Barrister paid over 3,000 technicians last year. Compared to the very few who have posted negatively, it becomes apparent that Barrister is not mistreating or unfairly penalizing anyone. We value and appreciate our techs and we make every effort to make sure they are paid promptly and correctly. We work with the finest independent contractor technicians in North America and we are proud of our long history of fair and ethical payment practices. We urge this technician to submit all of his documentation as described above and we will certainly take a look to see if there is an error on Barrister's part and if so, it will be promptly corrected.
