Ok so I applied for this job entitled "CA Enterprise" under Monsterjobs.com and it said my title that I am applying for would be Account Representative. This company called me the next day and wanted me in for an interview, excited as I was I went in the next day (Wednesday). In my interview a really nice young man told me all about the business and who they work with. He listed all the big promoters such as Disney, and a bunch of other high place companies. I was so excited that the only question I had for him was "how much do I make an hour?". He seemed shocked that I asked such a question after his huge speel about the company. He then leaned back in his chair and was telling me due to my experiece that it depends on my pay. I could average between 30-45 an hour just starting out! I was so shocked that I, a girl who just graduated w/2 associates degrees not in business could make such high money, that I told him that I could start the next day if he wanted me to.

I started that Thrusday morning w/a women and her trainie. I was under the assumption that I was going to be getting paid for my observation hours also that I was going to be observing office work since I was going there for an Accounting job. NOPE! We got into the car and I was thinking that we were going to go into another office building since their company is "SOOO HUGE". We started driving got back onto 169 N and was going for a wase then I finally asked "where are we going?" and they told me Osseola, WI!!!!! OK I am not even OK to get in a car with complete strangers and now I am driving 2 hours away from my destination with them. Not ok with that!

Once we got there, we started going into all the businesses and selling our product which was Victoria Jackson and I am sorry but I did not feel comfortable trying to brib all these people into buying this product. Yes it is cute and may work great but almost all of them do not even wear make-up because they live in a small farm town and I know how that is. They were saying how they do not wear it because they mainly farm and they do not need it and I can tell that some of them were getting really annoyed by us.

I was there getting kicked out of businesses due to solistiting. They kept telling the owners that we are not selling we are showing off the product, which is obviously not true. This job is 100% commission and there is no pay by the hour. They told me that between 3-8 months that I would be able to up my position and own my own business and I think that is almost true but kinda bullshit! Also, I felt like a cigrette butt and smelt like I just came home from the bars when they allowed smoking in them. Each one smoked at least a pack in the car, not cool!

When I got back to the station, supposed to be back at 5:30pm but was there by 6:30pm and I had to call my other job because I told them that I would be there by 6pm. Luckly they understood my situation once I got there at 7pm. I was interviewed again for the third time after the observation and then I told him that I am not comfortable driving my own car because I do not trust it. He then asked me if it gets me from point A to point B and I said yes but luckly I pray everytime. He then bypassed that I told him that my car is not trust worthy and told me about his "beater" that he had when he started this job. I don't care about his old car that he probably never had! Due to the fact that he still had WI liscense plates on his car and I know hes been here long from what he was telling me.

I was trying to tell him how not interested I was and then he started putting my other jobs down that I already have. For instance, I work at a hotel front desk and I love it! He tried telling me "So you would rather stand behind a desk all day and answer phones instead of making lots of money?" and I took this as an insult and told him off a little. For one thing, I just do not answer phones all day, I do a lot of customer service and some accounting. He tried telling me that I should give up my other jobs and come work there full time and I told him NO so he told me to give it another try next tuesday and I finally left with an OK. I called later that day and said hell no to him.

Do not fall for this sh*t! They claim that you get reembersed in gas but not milage at the end of the year. But, you have to keep all your reciepts! This job is a rip off and I wish that they would close down!

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Brian's response is incorrect

AUTHOR: Mpls Job Seeker - (U.S.A.)

Brian,

Your statements concerning the hiring process are incorrect. First of all, anyone and their mother can apply for a position at Bay Area Promotions. Second, if you have a pulse or are a sucker, you will be asked for a second interview a few days later. The reason is they want you to work for them for a day without paying you. I am sure that at least 90% of the people interviewed are asked for a 2nd interview as long as they show some interest in the company. I was asked for a 2nd interview because I had a college degree and 2 years in the sales/marketing industry, however the people that I was paired up with for my 2nd interview had no experience in sales and marketing and neither had a degree in anything that would constitute a degree or experience in marketing field. So for you to say that they don't offer everyone a 2nd interview is wrong. The fact is, if you show interest in the company, the "CEO" as he calls himself will offer you a 2nd interview and false promises of management in a short time as well as big bucks. The only way you wouldn't get a 2nd interview is: if you are mentally retarded or if you decide the company is not right for you: in which case the "CEO" of Bay Area Promotions will try to persuade you anyways. The fact is, this company is a marketing chop shop, taking crappy products and trying to peddle them to every small town business around Minnesota. On top of this, the regions that they sell are no where near Minneapolis and require at least 2 hours of commuting just to get to these places, meaning wasted time and lots of gas wasted. Additionally the amount of gas wasted will most likely cost more then what you can make selling the products, meaning that you could actually end up losing money for a days work.

So if you are interested in trying to sell markers, coupons and other garbage door-to-door for commission only with no benefits, good luck and maybe 1 out 500 will actually advance in this company. Bay Area Promotions is a very poorly run, cheap company with false promises and a crappy track record. Please do not waste the time to even interview with these manipulative schemers as you will end up hating your job and should you make it more than a few days, you will realize how much it sucks doing some other guys dirty work at Bay Area Promotions.

Finally, promotional marketing is not typical marketing working with Fortune 500 companies; its selling or passing along freebies that companies give to Bay Area Promotions and other companies just like them to sell. Its may be ethical in the marketing standpoint but its dirty work and anyone with a degree or street smarts would know instantly that this is not a career move. Selling $5 marker sets door-to-door is no career and in no way can you make 100k a year unless you manage to go to every door in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota and South Dakota.

I work for this company. I think that it is very immature to sit and bash something that you know nothing about. We do not give a Day of Observation to many people. Being that you were chosen to recieve one, we must have felt that you had something that you could bring to the table. I have been to Osceola, I know that there are a lot of people there that appreciate what we do. We are not salespeople! We are Direct Marketers. Furthermore, remember that Karma comes back x10!
