I had a serious surgery. I opened an account with my local BBT so I could easily walk disability checks for deposit. All checks I have deposited have been Met Life disability checks. I have also deposited other BBT checks to experiment with their deposit clearances policy. This is MY money-I was doing BBT a favor by using them!

I agree: BBT is involved in the same fraudulent posting posting practices to obtain NSF fees that Bank of America recently settled in a class action lawsuit.

For all deposits, including felloe BBT checks, this bank places a THREE DAY 'hold' so that they can refuse drafts and continue to charge NSF fees at their convenience. The holds are at the convenience of BBT -if printed, the daily on-line action on my account differs each day until the 'hold" is released. The fraudulent fees are never reversed. It's a scam!!!

Another fraudulent practice by BBT is the lack of recourse to dispute anything. There is no live phone or online support. Employees are trained to defend the scam. One even said to me "oh, ripoffreport, we're all aware of that! Well, how did it get there??? Nobody else has it. There are no negative complaints on this site for Bxxx of Cxxxe Cxxxy or Wxxxxx!(((REDACTED)))

I re-opened my account at W(((REDACTED)))-they gave me immediate access to my disability check! Thank you Wxxxx! What fantastic customer service you have demonstrated!

I too am ready to join others in a class action lawsuit against them for such practices.

#11 Consumer Suggestion

Deposit holds and funds availability.

AUTHOR: Robert - (U.S.A.)

Hold on deposits vary, depending on the source and amount of the deposit and if the account is "new" or not.

Regulation CC prescribes what banks can and cannot do with deposit holds and funds availability.

I suggest you visit the Federal Reserve website and download the "Consumer Compliance Guide." This PDF file contains a lot of usefull information for consumers.

You can download the handbook at

Ah, yes...

The "bank employee" innuendo. People here have suggested that I work for Wells Fargo, US Bank, Bank of America, Wachovia and now BB&T. It's literally amazing how many people resort to the "bank employee" defense without responding to the actual rebuttal.

For the record, I do not work for any bank, have never worked for a bank and have no plans to ever work for a bank.

Now, if you don't mind answering the question... why not start the class action lawsuit yourself? Think of all the people out there waiting for someone like you to save them.

BBT Rebuttal Comments...

AUTHOR: Berryville virginia - (U.S.A.)

POSTED: Tuesday, June 02, 2009

Funny, the BBT Ripoffreport Rebuttals are the same comments-verbatum- withdifferent author names, but from the same state.
Could it be posted from BBT employees? Yes.
The fact is, BBT has pages of these same negative comments and other banks do not! Someone may want to do a little homework!

Why wait for a class action lawsuit? Why not start one yourself and give hope to the poor souls whose lives have been ruined by this satanic bank?

So you are saying that the only reason you have overdraft fees is because BB&T is wrong in what they are doing. There is NO chance at all that you are actually spending the money before it is available?

Your new bank was "redacted", but both banks I am aware of that start with W's have the same policies. As they follow the same FEDERAL check availablity guidelines(Regulation CC) that BB&T use. One of these guidelines is to allow the bank to hold your checks for an additional amount of time if you have a recent history of overdrafts. So you can expect that the first time you overdraft your account with your new bank, they may implement the same policy that allows additional holds for funds.
