I am very sorry to discover that my wife and I arent the only customers of BBT that have been robbed by deceitful planned accounting practices that purposely wait to post deposits until all debits have come thru so that NSF can be charged to our account. This is specifically designed to be a profitable scam for the bank while their customers, like my wife an I, live pay check to pay check to keep our family feed and the bills paid, only to have it stolen by a company that purposely manipulates their accounting to cause our account to be overdrawn.

Since February 2006 we have been charged $4200.00 plus from NSF charges. I know that people would think that we just write cold checks knowing that the money is not in our account. I assure you this is not the case. My check is direct deposited and goes in every Thursday night at midnight. I always go on line to check for the deposit every Friday morning. The deposit shows up in our available balance on Friday mornings. The exception, that always happens, is the direct deposit is not posted on Thursday night at midnight when there are transactions that will cause the account to be overdraft if the deposit is not posted to our account. In these cases the deposit doesnt get applied to our balance until Friday night at midnight. Just last week my wife deposited her $300.00 pay check on Thursday. She asked for the account balance after the deposit and it included the $300.00 deposit.

On Friday morning I went online as usual only to discover the balance was negative $270.00. $210.00 was in overdraft fees alone. The $300 deposit did not show up anywhere until Friday night at midnight. We have actually had overdrafts from purchases that were made on a Saturday and Sunday after my wife and my deposits have been made on Thursday night and Friday. The deposits were not posted to our account, until the purchases, that were made 24-48 hours after the deposits had been made, came thru which caused our account to be overdrawn. The deposit was posted only after all transaction and NSF charges had been deducted. On some occasions the deposit wasnt enough to bring our balance to a positive due to the NSF charges. This caused more NSF charges due to transaction that came thru for items set up on automatic payments that are scheduled each month for the same days.

We have applied for a overdraft protection line of credit numerous times. We have asked for protection up to $500.00. We have even asked that the line of credit be set up that in the event that funds from the overdraft protection line of credit had to be used, that the amount drafted be deducted immediately from the next deposit made. To date we have been denied. It is more profitable for the bank to deny the overdraft protection line of credit to continue using creative accounting to rob their customers of hard earned money.

Currently I am having problems getting our balance to match the banks reported balance. Each and every month I take the transactions from the bank records and balance our account. This month the bank balance shows that we have $272.00 less than what my balance shows. Again I use the banks transactions to balance our account. It seems that the $272.00 vanished into thin air with no explanation.

We will be changing banks after all attempts have been made to recover money that has been stolen thru the continued deceitful accounting practices. Any advice on a course of action will be mush appreciated. We will also be doing research before we decide on what Bank to change too. Is there a Bank that is honest and truly cares about the long term relationship with their customers????

Jack,
I'd recommend the following plan:

close your account out and open up a new account in a credit union. they are much more human than the big banks.

Use this new account ONLY for depositing money and for withdrawing cash. If you need to make a payment, get a money order. Yes, this will be time consuming but it will ensure that you will never have bounced check fees again.
