Took my 2006 Grand Caravan to have a diagnostic done to see what is wrong with it since the check engine light stays on a lot even though it goes out at times.  Also the car wouldn't pass inspection.  Besides that the car runs fine.

I was told the following:
- EGR Valve
- Water Pump Leaking
- Power Steering Rack Leaking
- Spark Plugs Wires Throttle Body and Injector Service and Transmission

Was quoted over $3,000 to make this repairs.

Something did not seem right here so decided not to repair the car and also since don't have that kind of money to spend.

Contacted a mechanic at an auto repair shop that someone I know recommended and after talking to this mechanic was told that there is also wrong with all that since first if the car was leaking from the water pump and power steering will have a liquid podle under the car each time park somewhere.  Have NO liquid under the car.  Also the car will be running hot and will know that from the temperature indicator.  The car does not runs hot at all and it runs fine.

It is obvious that Beaman Dodge is trying to rip people off !   What a scam.

People beware and based on my experience I advice you NOT to do business with Beaman.   Look for another honest business instead.

I will follow up on this posting once the mechanic I talked to checks the van out and tells me what is actually wrong with the van.

Ripoff Confirmed

AUTHOR: magicguy333 - (USA)

POSTED: Tuesday, March 09, 2010

Since what was told by Beaman Dodge in what was wrong with the car seem very strange and very questionable took it to an independent mechanic shop to have it look at.  This mechanic shop told me and showed me that the only thing wrong with the car was the EGR valve which is what controls the check engine light to be on, get less gas mileage, and also not to pass the emissions test.  There was NO water leak or any other leak from the water pump, transmission, and power steering rack.  Also the rack & pinion was fine and no need to get a new one.  The EGR valve needed to be order so was told to come back the next day to have it fix.

That afternoon, March 8, 2010 contacted Beaman Dodge and spoke with their service manager, Robert Curtis, and told him what another mechanic/shop has said about the car and that they were wrong and trying to rip me off.  He told me that if I was going to take what another mechanic/shop was saying that was my doing but that can bring the car in and he will put the car up on a rack and showed me the actual things that were wrong with the car as were given on the original diagnostics.

When got there he put the car up and one of the mechanics there pointed out that the rack and pinion had a sticker on that had an older label model (part number) and as of today they were higher in numbers.  Because of that the rack and pinion had it to be replaced.  Also showed a one little spot on the water pump that was very very dry and didn't seem to be recent at all.  As of this point the car has never run hot and the car temperature been fine. Also never had any puddles of water/liquid underneath the car when parked anywhere.   Shown some oil/grease on the rod from the rack and pinion that said that was oil leaking.  In fact found out from the other mechanic/shop that this is normal since that is from the chassis lube that is peformed when oil changes are done.

When the car was put down and given back to me Mr. Robert Curtis that I needed to come back here to Ripoff Report and put a letter of apology and correct my posting since what I have done is very wrong.   I told him that I have not done anything wrong and only done what is my right and in my opinion to post to tell others about my bad experience with Beaman Dodge and their attemp to try to rip me off.

I also told him that his mechanic that said about the label on the rack and pinion only wanted to replace it because it was an old sticker.  Not because there was something actually wrong with it.  They also never took the rack and pinion apart and at no point (not even on their original diagnostic) so is not even that they can say for sure what is exactly wrong.  Also never took apart the water pump, steering rack or anything else.  They said originally that their diagnostic it is very throughout and that is why it takes a while.  When they said this you figure that they take the actual pieces apart to do a complete examination but from what was told now at the end they don't.

When I told him that I wasn't going to post an apology because now certainly shows and have clearly proven that is a complete ripoff attempt.  Then he got mad.  I then left the dealership.

Beaman Dodge Estimate of Repairs that were given to what "supposely" was wrong with the car are as follow:

Waterpump $358.10
Rack & Pinion $851.97
EGR Valve $363.00
Major Tune Up $294.50
Throttle Body Service $79.95
Fuel Injection Service $89.95
Transmission Service $164.00

Today March 9, 2010 went back to the mechanic and got the EGR Valve fixed.  Now the check engine light is no longer on and the car is running fine.

Total cost to do this actual true needed repair was $323.70

You can figure out the savings based on what  I was quoted by Beaman Dodge.

So as you can see here in my opinion and based on my experience with this dealership I will advice anyone to stay away from Beaman Dodge and don't do business with them.
