If you buy anything from Best Buy, chances are you are paying WAY more than if you bought the exact same item somewhere else.

You can go to Amazon.com or even eBay and get the exact same items for about 1/2 what you pay at Best Buy.

I am amazed at the prices Best Buy charges for things!! I am also amazed at how many people seem to be willing to hand over their $$$$ to this company for stuff that is 50% higher priced than other places.

Best Buy's entire store is set up to service a segment of the population that wants to feel they are somehow superior to the rest of society. These people who shop at Best Buy want to have young sales people to talk to them about he item they are interested in buying. These customers seem to love having that "customer service" experience where someone answers your questions about the product. Never mind the fact that you can simply do some online research and find the SAME INFORMATION right there on the screen and what you find online will be honest reviews of the product, not Best Buy employees who are paid to tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to open your walled and hand over your $$$$.

Best Buy is set up to take your money from you. Their customer service is the same level you get at Car Dealerships, they are only after your money and they want to tell you whatever you want to hear to get you to open your wallet and buy buy buy. They will LIE to you if necessary and pressure you into buying stuff you don't need like extended warranties that are 100% worthless.

Best Buy sells all sorts of Extended Warranties that are absolutely worthless. Anyone who has ever tried to make a claim on an extended warranty will find that there are many loopholes that allow Best Buy to say, Oh, we're sorry but in your case we cannot pay the claim. They will find ANYTHING they can to get out of paying the warranty.

Best Buy is a MASSIVE SCAM on the consumer. EVERYTHING they sell is overpriced. You can go to Sam's Club, Costco, Wal-Mart, GameStop, Amazon.com, eBay, etc. etc. and save a TON of $$$ over what you pay at Best Buy.

Everyone should just Boycott Best Buy and put this back stabbing company out of business!!

You can't compare online to a store...

Overhead..you know> Ever hear of it?

No one is forced to shop anywhere they don't like. Bestbuy still continues to be the number one retailer of consumer electronics, and continues to grow, nation and world wide.

Will they make everyone happy? No. Will every employee always be perfect? No.

But some shoppers like to go where they can feel and touch something before they buy it..or ask a live person a question before they buy it.

As far as the "all sorts of extended warranties"...they do not sell a single "warranty". They do not sell a single "extended" warranty.

All warranties are from the manufacturer. They offer "service plans" and are very clear on what it covers. They MUST...let me say this again S_L_O_W_L_Y..They MUST give each customer a terms booklet. At the point of sale the transaction can not go though until the customers checks "yes" on the screen that they received the terms information pamphlets/brochures..so there is no way that a customer can claim they did not know what was or was not covered, it is in black and white and very comprehensive.

Is Best Buy trying to make a profit? YES, they are a retailer with over 100,000 employees. They have rent and bills and insurance you know. For the most part, they work on an extremely low margin on the core product. But they are entitled to be in business to grow and prosper, are they not? Being in retail to make a profit, imagine that?

An ignorant shopper will be ignorant no matter where they shop. A smart shopper will be smart no matter where they shop. In all honesty..Best Buy is nothing but a big toy store for the most part. Anyone can do without 80-90% of what they sell. But, they sure do seem to sell a lot...you'd have to agree. Supply and demand 101.

#2 UPDATE EX-employee responds

Like anywhere else

Wow, that sounds like everywhere I've ever shopped! Not to be sarcastic but isn't the point of a business to make money? Also, having worked at Best Buy I can attest to the fact that most employees who aren't managers could give a d**n about whether their store makes any money. They get paid the same whether someone buys something or not. They are not paid on commission. Many employees (I won't presume to say all) actually feel the most rewarded when a customer leaves HAPPY. Especially if that customer becomes a repeat customer for that specific employee. I actually have developed a couple of friendships out of customers I helped when I worked there.

As for pricing...oh my god, you found a better price elsewhere?! It happens a lot. The reason Best Buy and most other retailers have a price match policy is because they don't want you to buy the same thing anywhere else. Even Wal-Mart has this, and occassionally has to match Best Buy. Weird, huh? Online only marketers will always beat out retail stores when it comes to price because, as strange as it seems, it's cheaper to make you do the work than it is to pay somebody to know the product for you. Nothing is stopping you or anyone one else from doing your own research before going to the store. BestBuy.com even features a customer reviews section for each product!

I think I've gone plenty far with this considering this wasn't really a complaint to begin with, more of a general bemoaning of the effects of the market on a capitalist society. Feel free to move to China, where capitalism is taboo and Best Buy is still popular, successful, and expanding. Maybe they'll care about your little pet peeves.

Then don't go there

What are you really trying to say?

I've bought several things at Best Buy at good prices.  I would not consider buying something - say- like a big television on line.  You have to pay shipping and if it doesn't work you have to pack it up and ship it back.  You don't get to see it or touch it or see how it looks or how it works.  That is, unless you shop there and then order it online.  That's definitely unethical.

Buy where you like and I'll buy where I like and for my own reasons.

I don't see any kind of Rip Off here.

And, no, I don't work for Best Buy, just a satisfied customer.
