I have had several dealings with the BBB and never any real results. My first was reporting a car dealership that ripped off my wife on a truck. This company, A. Crivelli in Oil City, PA, sold her a truck at KBBs retail price despite not meeting it's requirements of being a fully reconditioned vehicle. The BBB got their required "cookie cutter" response from A. Crivelli and basically told me there was nothing they could do.
My next dealing with the BBB was over a problem with Paypal. I sold a product on ebay, accepted payment through Paypal, delivered the product, and recieved good feedback from the buyer. A few days later, Paypal sends me an email saying that they gave this guy his money back and that they took whatever money was in my account and I owed them around $250.
When I called Paypal, they told me that there was an issue with the credit card and they had to give the money back. In other words, they gave a scammer his money back and expected ME to take the hit.
Through this dealing, Paypal had their story change twice. First it was that they investigated and found that it was someone elses money. Apparently I didn't fall for that, so then they lied and said this, "PayPal contacted you on 07/26/06, to inform you that the payment you received may have been fraudulently funded. At that time, we asked you for information to determine whether or not the transaction would be eligible for our Seller Protection Policy."
This was never done. I was never contacted. If I was I would have shown them to other people who were defrauded by this person through Paypal that I found after some research.
How can a company that outright lies and cheats its customers be in "satisfactory" standing with the BBB? I'll tell you how. Paypal pays good money to the BBB to screw consumers by allowing them to be in that standing.
After all of this, I emailed BBB this: "I'm just wondering how their cookie cutter responses to everyone that they rip off keep them in satisfactory standing with the BBB. Is that all a company has to do to stay in good standing? Just lie and repeat itself over and over again on how it believes it is self-righteous in stealing money from its customers?I have repeatedly read their policy on seller protection, and NOWHERE does it say that money can be taken from my account by Paypal, nor did it say that anywhere in the user agreement. And yet they get away with it."
To which they responded: "The Better Business Bureau is a private, non-profit organization that acts as a neutral third party facilitator of complaints between businesses and consumers. The Bureau does not take sides in a dispute, but assists in the communication between parties. The Bureau sent your complaint to the company, who responded in a timely manner. The company's response addresses disputed issues. There is nothing further we can ask the company to do. Your complaint will be kept on the company's record for three years.
The Bureau processes over 1,000 complaints per month and successfully assists in the resolution of many disputes. However, we cannot guarantee the outcome to the satisfaction of all parties involved. We regret the outcome of your complaint is not to your satisfaction, but we have assisted you according to our procedures.
Sincerely,

So now people are going to go research these companies on the BBB website and get nothing but lies and false information. What a great "consumer" business.

STOP! ..before you think about using the Better Business Bureau (BBB)... CLICK HERE to see how other consumers were victimized by the BBB's false or misleading information. Don't be fooled! It has been reported, when there are thousands of complaints and other investigations underway by authorities, the BBB has no choice but to finally give an UNsatisfactory rating to a BBB member business that is paying the BBB big membership fees every year. When a business is reported that is NOT a BBB member, BBB files WILL more likely show an UNsatisfactory rating, then reportedly shake down that company to become a member of the BBB. One positive thing about the BBB is, either way, if a business has an unsatisfactory rating with the BBB, you can be sure, the business is bad. But what about all those BBB member businesses that had complaints filed against them? Consumers never get to hear about them. What about the BBB advertising to the public? Is this a false and misleading perception they are giving about consumer confidence when dealing with a business? Click here to understand more of what consumers and business alike are saying about the BBB. You decide. ..Remember. The BBB membership is not earned, it's paid for!
