Blitt and Gaines contacted me a few months to "settle" a 13 year old Discover Card debt. I went back and forth with them for weeks while they gave me "settlement" amounts, none of which I could possibly fund. Then they called me and asked if I would do a 6 month hardship payment since I had no extra money to give. I said yes. Next thing I know I have a court date for wage garnishment.
Multiple calls later, they tell me there is nothing they can do, they have filed to garnish my wages. Single mom of 3, no expendable income.
It gets better. I go to buy groceries last week and they have FROZEN my checking account. Just like that. No notification, no documentation. No rent money, no food money. They have garnished my checking account.
Another call to them to find out what is going on and they tell me that they do not have to provide me with any documentation. They will go to court next month and pursue this. Can I make out a payment plan? No. Can I work with someone to figure this out? No. So no money and no resolution for at least three more weeks. "It's a process" she tells me.
Well, I have it all documented, including names, dates and phone numbers. And if there is an attorney out there who wants to help me, I welcome the opportunity.

The only way you will get ANY assistance is to retain a Lawyer. You cannot afford one and I understand this. HOWEVER, you are not out of luck. EVERY Lawyer has to put in PRO BONO time. Or in laymans terms. FOR FREE work. They have to do this EVERY year. They MUST have atleast a certain number of Pro Bono cases per year. You should be able to contact your states BAR accociation and request information on who is doing pro bono work. If anything they might be able to point you in the right direction.
Its unfortunate that you are dealing with this, but this is the costs of not paying a debt. Your wages will be continually garnished. Sometimes even after you have "paid". Make sure you get ahold of your Payroll dept. and get Direct deposit taken off. Otherwise you will need to either move in with family or take a second job to make ends meet.
