Bluegreen Vacation Club bought timeshare in 2003, tried to book 2 weeks but told can only have 1 week as high red season, when sold was not told their was a high red season only red blue etc, could not book bonus week either Florida Florida

Bought a timeshare/20,000 points and was told could have 2 weeks every year wherever we wanted to go. Have not used the timeshare at all yet, this year April 2007 will be our first time. I assumed my points would be rolled over, so decided to book to go away in March/April, told cannot have 2 weeks only 1 week, but could book bonus week, tried to do this in the time limit required and was told their was nothing available. So now stranded in America from 4 April until 10 April with no idea where we are going to stay, extremely disappointed and feel have been misled with this timeshare and just wish we could get rid of it, my husband since then has not been able to work and is disabled and I am his full time carer, so this is a costly thing every month but as far as we are aware are binded to it and canno get shot of it, tried also to exchanged left over points with RCI in the hope they could provide something, they took the exchange but nothing came in return.
They are also a waste of space. Paying out these maintenance fees every year along with the monthly mortgage is crippling us and dont know where to even begin to try and sell it, dont want to be ripped off again or should i say some of these organisations seem to move the goal posts, would be cheaper to get a package deal as the air fares are very expensive and to be honest we are no better off with this timeshare even though the sales rep at the time convinced us we would be better off, I suppose we would if we could use it.

I have owned my Bluegreen since 2006...and LOVE it because I have learned how to use it.
I cannot believe some of the comments I see about people not being able to use it, or it being a rip off.
Good to see there are some others who have posted her, telling the truth.
It's the responsibility of someone who CHOSE to purchase to LEARN how to use it !

What is Rescinding a timeshare? Rescinding a timeshare is a legal way to cancel a timeshare contract, sometimes with the possibility to get your money back and usually within a certain number of days, this depending on the place where you purchased the timeshare. In Mexico, there is a 5 day cancellation period, and even though some timeshare salespeople might ask you to sign away your right to cancel during the sales presentation, you still have the legal right to rescind.

I also live in the UK and have been a member of Bluegreen since the bought Oasis Lakes (The Fountains) from Airtours.
With 20000 points you are a silver member, you are correct in that you can not have 2 weeks at the Fountains as this takes 26000 for red week or 32000 for high red, but there are ways around if you can travel out of season then that will give you more nights for your points (even spring bank holiday is a red week). You can book 11 months out, if you have saved points (points are only saved for 1 yr) and you can travel in the red time use these first then and only then use your current yrs points for the remainder.
So if you still have 20000 saved points use those and take 6000 from this year, next year you will have 14000 saved so use 12000 new points and so on. You can also bring forward next years points aslong as you prepay the maintance fees.
The Fountains is such a large resort now that bonus time is nearly alway available we have used points/bt when we have found a last minute deal on a flight.
If you can drive u can also try 1 week Orlando 1 week on the coast since you are silver members you can go on the waiting list at 12 months out if you can travel anytime make the reservation for the coast first then tag on Orlando before or after but remember it must be red week ie 7000 points for the coast ie Resort 66 and 13000 at The fountains. Arrange all this before your flight --- your reservations can be modified etc and since you are silver there is no fee for doing this, this will give you more flexability befor you book the flight.
Dont forget the other resorts you can fly with First choise to Aruba from Manchester or London 2 weeks in a studio at Lacabana will use 12000 points or at certain times a 1 bed unit .
This will leave you with 8000 points left you could use 3000 of them to pay your club dues.
Are you reg online at WWW.Bluegreenonline.com if not then please do as all your details will be there you can then book online pay fees etc which would save on phone calls to the States.
If you are paying for the points with a loan from Bluegreen check how much you owe and refinance it with a loan over here (remember that we now get $2 to the pound )

This year we have 39000 points we are using them as follows
spring bank holiday week 1 week in Orlando at the sunshine resort (may change this to The fountains if the new pool is finished.
the week after we will be at Resort 66
then the last week july and first week in Aug we will be 11 nights at Seaglass tower in Mytle Beach then 2 nights at Charleston.
So as you see it does work and yes it does save money in the long run we have had a timeshare since 1999 at oasis lakes then Bluegreen and with the money it would have cost us to go to all these places and stay in a good standard of accom
we should break even next year after that then we get all these holidays just for the cost of the mf and club dues the cost of the stay at the Seaglass tower for 11 nights is twice the mf.

I continue to be disheartened to hear of another individual who has discovered that
The Bluegreen Vacation package they have purchased is not what it is cracked up to be.
I experienced the disappointment in September of 2006 on my initial attempt to use the program. As this website reveals there are many in the same boat as us. As of now and including my attorney fees, so far this debacle has cost my family over sixteen thousand dollars with not the first wonderful vacation experience. We will never use the program because it is unusable.
It does no good to bring the issue to the attention of Bluegreen reps. As far as their concerned you signed the papers and that is all they care about along with getting their fees every year for as long as you own the membership. All that our goal at Bluegreen blah, blah, blah,,,, is crap. They at first will appear to be nice but I am now experiencing the ruthlessness of the corporation. I have more or less been told to take my medicine, shut my month, pay your fees or we will sue your a*s off. We don't care if you use the program or not.
Since September 2006 I have spent countless hours contacting every law enforcement office and bureau of which supposed to monitor this type of activity and all chose to look the over way. Since September 2006 I have spent countless sleepless nights trying to figure out how I was stupid enough to fall for the trap. So you are not alone.
Here are the only working suggestions I can give you through my experience in dealing with this issue. Accurately, respectfully and honestly detail your experience and file a complaint with the Florida Governors office, the Florida Attorney Generals office, The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services and the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation. Internet searches will reveal all of the proper contact information. Don't waste your time with the Better Business Bureau as Bluegreen is a member of the BBB and the BBB is not going to slap one of the hands that feed them.
Also, go ahead and select an attorney. Allow that attorney to try and negotiating a settlement with Bluegreen due to the deceptive nature of the sales presentation. Besides having a local attorney on retainer I have been in communications with the law offices of Gainey and McKenna of New York and New Jersey who are pursuing a class action lawsuit of which you should be allowed to participate in. Since you are from the United Kingdom you may seek advice from the top law enforcement Department in that country to see what if anything can be done.
The main thing that I am finding out is to be patient and keep track of all your expenses in dealing with this matter. I hope I have help somewhat and given you a little hope.
