Boat N RV DANGEROUS !! Coxaskie New York

To whom it may concern;

Please be advised that on 11/28/2014 I purchased from your Coxsaskie location the following unit;

• 2007 Weekend Warrior
• VIN# 18225
• As per attached invoice.

While your sales staff was more than accommodating with the sale I found after the first time mobilizing the unit I was faced with several issues that I believe qualified the unit as being unsafe never mind totally illegal according to NY DMV law.

There were several small problems which I corrected over the winter no big issue as it is a used unit. My concern is the lack of adherence to the NYS Inspection regulations. On my first trip south in May of 2015 the right rear tire went flat, when I say flat I mean exploded so much so that is caused damage to the fender you had just repaired in Nov 2015. Acceptable, tires go flat however it was on the NJ Turnpike which is not a lot of fun.

On the way home the camper had another explosive tire incident this time on the left rear axle, destroying not only the tire but the wheel itself, luckily I had purchased a new spare tire while away.

I am a long time mechanic and I just could not accept that it was just bad luck having 2 flats within 500 miles on the same rear axle. I was able to contact the previous owner and much to my dismay he informed me that flats were a common occurrence with the Camper, so much so that whenever he took it on the road he would bring 2 or 3 spares with him depending on the length of the trip. The part that baffles me is that he informed your PA dealership of the issue when he traded it in. Why would Boat N RV not address something as serious as this?

I decided to take it to a private repair shop that deals with commercial trucks and trailers as my confidence in your organization was of course not good at that point. Below please find a brief synopsis of the issues with the camper along with all the reference documents attached.

Apparently the reason my brake controller on my tow vehicle had to be set at 8.5 was the fact that the brakes on the camper were not working (at all) never mind the fact that the lines for the magnet brakes had been cut on the rear axle, along with that there were no rear pads at all on the rear only the backing plate was present (photo attached). Question is how did this pass NYS DMV inspection? It really is a twofold problem as not only are brakes required by NYS Law MV -529C but since the brakes were not operational it means that the breakaway system was not operational, also required by NYS. That itself is bad enough the fact that the axles were mismatched and damaged were obviously the reason that the tires were exploding (see attached) The rear axle was actually going down the road sideways, scuffing the tires until they exploded.

I find it impossible to believe that any inspection was performed on this vehicle prior to delivery as even the day I did pick it up I had to wait 2 hours for a brake light to be repaired, apparently the power line to the light s had been cut. Once again it already had been inspected.

Please be assured that I know what can happen when a trailer locks up, jackknifes or flips, having been a commercial driver for a large portion of my life I have seen and experienced many of these incidents. The most disturbing thing is that my young Grandchildren were in the tow vehicle with my Wife and me, MY GRAND KIDS!

After reviewing the enclosed information I would appreciate your organization reimbursing me for the corrective actions that had to be performed in order to make this unit road worthy never mind making it legal according to NY DMV Law.
