A few weeks ago, I got a call on my cell phone and house phone from these guys. I recently purchased a car, so I imagine they got that information off my credit report. They claim I owe $2400 on an account that closed three years ago.

During my first phone conversation, the guy "Tommy" (from the "legal department") was extremely rude. He immediately demanded to know why I didn't just pay the debt. When I told him I didn't know what he was talking about, he started reading details of all past accounts I had (house, car, store credit, student loans, ect)...I imagine he also got those from my credit report. He told me I was making payments or had paid off all those and again demanded to know why I hadn't paid this debt.

I told Tommy I was uncomfortable with his tone and told him to just mail me validation of the debt (My wife works for a credit defense attorney...I'm no expert, but I have heard a thing or two about the FBCPA over the last few years). Tommy ignored my request and continued to attempt to talk me into paying the debt. I then repeated the same thing and the guy responded with "Yeah, yeah, yeah...I THINK I know the law better then you". At that point I hung up.

A short time later, my phone rang again and I spoke to a lady from the same firm. She was extremely nice, but also had a threating tone. Used the words "move this forward" and "get on with this case". She told me they would send the information right out.

About 3 days later I got a message on my home phone that said they sent a letter and they needed a response by next Tuesday (about 4 days away at that time) or they would "move on and push this case forward". My basic understanding of the law is that they can not imply legal action they can not take. (I have 30 days to respond....Not 4)

These guys are clowns. They just want you to believe your entire world will come down unless you immediately pay them. My advice when dealing with them is to tell them to never call again and immediately speak to a lawyer.
