I received a call from my HR manager on Friday indicating that she had just received a call from the local Sheriffs Dept attempting to serve me with a summons to garnish my wages. She said they told her that I needed to call Ms. Cruz at 714-872-5038. I called her and she proceeded to tell me I owed money to HSBC from 2005, which I dont dispute.
She went on to say that she had a judgement and was prepared to have the sheriff come to my work and serve me with papers to have my wages garnished. She said the payments could be split into two separate payments, and that I owed $2032.15. The original credit line on this card was only $300. She said that if I agreed to a settlement amount she would stop the sheriffs office from coming to my work, and settle the debt.
She indicated that if I contested the debt then the amount would be even higher, and that they would also interfere somehow with my current car loan through the courts.... (?) None of this rang true to me, but because my HR manager had called and she was positive she had spoken to the sheriffs dept, I was worried.
I agreed to pay the $1200 settlement and gave her my debit card number, which is to be charged this Thursday. Since then I have done some research and read all the other rip off reports and from what I see this woman is a total liar. I believe she had someone call my office and falsely impersonate the sheriffs dept.,lie to me about the actions they were going to take, create some number that I supposedly owe, etc.
I am going to cancel my current debit card tomorrow morning and look into this further. I have also called HSBC and they indicated they sold this debt to another collection agency altogether. The only thing I am thankful for is that I had just paid all my bills and there isnt anything in this account tied to the debit card for them to take!
Do not let anyone scare you into thinking you have to give you personal information in order to keep them from coming to your job!!! I would love to prove they falsely impersonated a sheriff and report them to the authorities for this! These companies need to be stopped. They dont understand that by lying and being nasty they are only making consumers not want to deal with them even more! I refuse to speak with this company again.

Don't deal with them

They will not sue you. They don't have any attorneys. They have a "Legal Administrator", Tom Morris, who tries to talk a good game. They will threaten to sue you, but never will.
They also do business under Bureau of Asset management, Capitol Recoveries inc., Credit recoveries inc., Bureau of Debt Management and BDM online. They have been sued successfully for FDCPA violations, but continue to do so. Not very smart, but they must be conning enough people out of money to afford the lawsuits.
If you check the Anaheim business permit website, they change their name on a fairly regular basis.
