California Edison Making me pay for last roomates overdue bill Rosemead California

My ex-roomate decided to leave so I called Edison to have a new service turned on in my name.

Receiving my third bill I noticed that they charged me more that I had paid before.

I am being forced to pay my last roomates overdue bill. They put the charge on my bill stating that since I was living there, I would have to pay it even though it was not in my name.

I am so upset at this and feel that it is their problem not mine. We were just roomates. I was just renting. I don't know if I have any rights in this, but I got nowhere with them and feel like I am being pushed around. If they cant't collect, why force me to pay it?
