NEVER NEVER NEVER GIVE CAMCO A DIME! Camco gets a hold of old credit reports with debts that were either charged off or paid off. The company then pretends that they now own the debt and they have the right to collect. WRONG! I disputed their claim. They do not even have the full account number. The worst part is if you dispute their claim and ask them to stop calling per the Fair Debt Collection and Practices Act, they will keep on calling even though they are in violation. They know that per the FDCPA you can usually only sue them for $1000 and it's very difficult to do so if you live out of state.

I suggest you just tell their representative that they do not own a claim on you and hang up. If they insist the claim is valid, tell them to sue you. The will NOT sue you because once they attempt to do so, you can invoke the statute of limitations on the debt (usually 6 years). Since CAMCO only deals in very old debts, usually well past the statute of limitations, they are powerless. All they can do is harrass you by phone, trying to extort money you don't owe them.

If you have any problems with CAMCO, I urge you to file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and also the state attorney general for Illinois.
