I did a lot of checking on these people and came across a BBB report at http://www.chicago.bbb.org/common.html?location=/home/common/www/mis67/report.php&bureau=chic&compid=6500079.
Read it carefully. You can get them for sure at one thing! Illegal access to your credit report. I just checked mine and they ran an inquiry on me, that inquiry will remain on my record for 2 yrs. I will contact Trans-Union and raise hell. The information they obtain is what they use to sucker people into paying!! They have no permissible purpose. They can also not threaten or intimidate.
I can't believe that these SCAMCOwards make a living with 300 employees and growing! Don't give them a dime, even if you actually have an outstanding debt from years ago. Read their mission statement! "There does not appeared to be anything that prohibits a collector from seeking *****voluntary***** payment of the debt..(snip)"

I happen to be an ex-employee of SCAMCO and recently have been trying to help victimized consumers. As far as the credit report goes, they actually aren't allowed to tell you that they are viewing it. That is a clear FDCPA(Fair Debt Collection Practices Act)violation!! Get one of these collectors on recording!!
I want to let you know that they all use aliases. No one uses there proper name. Know why?? Because CAMCO employees can be personally sued!! Catch one of them and you will have some very good evidence. See how CAMCO uses there employees as a shield to prevent the company from being sued? Real nice, huh?
Also, there is a little thing that they like to call the "mini-miranda". It is required of any bill collector of any company to recite. If anyone can get a recording of a collector not saying this BEFORE a letter has been sent stating the miranda, that would be golden.
Mini-Miranda: "This is an attemp to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose". It is probably too late for you
