Just adding to the long list of potential victims...Based on what I have been reading, my nightmare is just beginning, but I will tell you what I have been able to find out thus far:

Same story, trying to collect on a non-existent, paid account that is almost 15 years old. This guy actually called me on my cell phone, and was not willing to let me "call him back in less than 15 minutes when I returned to my office". He said that he could only hold the "lower-amount" for the duration of this call, and would allow me to post-date a check (electronically) so that I could do my research.

I refused to give him the information at that time and said for him to "do what he had to do" as he was not allowing the time I had requested to do some research. He than changed his tune a bit (I think he sensed that I may actually pay the debt if given enough time to research it) and allowed me to call him when I returned to the office. He agreed to fax some information regarding the debt so that I could review the documents.

I told him that I would be checking his company out on the internet, and he informed me that they did not have a web page and cautioned me about all of the "dead-beats" that write un-true complaints about the company, as they ARE in the collection business. He suggessted that I call the Better Business Bureau. (Which I did)

Called the BBB and they had no record of the company. (I'm from California, not surprising that this office did not have information on them) They suggested I call the BBB in Rockford and gave me the number. Their number is as follows: 815-963-2222. I spoke to MaryAnn at the Rockford facility and she was quite informative.

She said there have been 183 complaints against the company in the past 36 months (That's how long they hold information). She also informed me of the SOL's (Statute of Limitations), and suggested I do a little more research on those in my state. (Which I did and like most, have found out that they have long since passed). I also asked her how to have them stop calling and she said all I need to do is send her a certified letter stating my complaint and asking them to stop, and she would handle it from there. Their address is as follows:
