september of 2009 my fiance and i lived at camden properties on north orange ave orlando fl 32801. my fiance was a leasing agent for the property. we seperated and she moved out and was fired from the company while i was out of town. she removed all her property from the apartment and left mine. she also turned her keys in and told management that i was out of town and that all my property was still in the apartment. when i came back in town, i witnessed that my fiance had moved out and that all my property was still in the apartment. i began packing all of my stuff and then maintnence walked in without knocking. they informed me that i wasn't on the lease and that i couldn't remove any of the property in the apartment and that i wasn't allowed on the property. i informed them that i was on the lease and that i wasn't gonna leave my stuff there. management called the police. the police informed me that i couldn't prove that i was on the lease and they couldn't force managment to release my personal property to me. said it was a "civil matter" not criminal. first, i was on the lease. managment removed me from the lease on the computer. second, even if your not on the lease management can not deny you access to your property. that is in the state of florida. problem is the police can not force them to release the property.
after pleading with management to let me get my property they refused. said it was liabilty issue and that the only person that can retrieve my property is my ex fiance. by now, my fiance moved back to georgia. they informed me that they would put my property in one of their storage rooms for 30 days. after that, if the property isn't retrieved by the 30th day it would be on the curb. my ex fiance set up a date 3 dyas before the 30th day. she got a call from the orlando police dept. 2 days before going down to orlando to get my property. they told her that the storage room was broken in to and that everything was stolen except for a few boxes.
for the record, only one storage room was broken in to. there's approxiamtely 30 storage units on the property. whats the odds of my storage room getting broke in to? the manager also made me suspect. first, how would i know where my property was? i wasn't with them when they removed my property. second, i was in atlanta ga. third, WHY WOULD I WANT TO STEAL MY OWN STUFF!!!!!!!
it was quite obvious that maintnence or one of the mangaers had something to do with this theft. i contacted human resources and lost managment with CAMDEN PROPERTY TRUST. lost managment appologised and told me they filed a claim and everything was gonna get taken care of. they informed me that management had no right to to deny me access to my personal property and take full controll of my belongings.
a week later a get a call from a insurance adjuster for camden. for your information, camden property trust is self-insured. they used a company that handels their claims. the adjuster told me this shouldn't take more than a month and requested me to fax him all my receipts for the stolen property. i fully complied and felt comfortable with how camden was handling the situation.
after a little over a month later, i get a phone call from Cynthia B. Scharringhausen(vice president of human resources). she informs me that they will not paying anything, that they aren't liable, and i dont what anybody else told you... were not taking responsibility!
she was very disrespectfull, and unprofessional. she was informed by the insurance adjuster that i made statement concerning camden employees were responsible for the theft and they took it themselves. cynthia scharringhausen was irate. she told me that they dont hire criminals and that i was the one that needed to be investigated.
this company refuses to accept any responsibilty. if they would've released my property to none of this would've occured.
