When my printer malfunctioned, I called the support number for the product. When asked what product, I gave the exact name of the model.

The voice kept repeating to give the model number when I already had. I sent a report to a feedback site and was given a link to register my product (which I had already done on after purchasing it 7 months ago.) Since they had lost my registration, I went through the motions of re-entering it). After receiving an email acknowledgment of the registration, I went to the support center and was told to register the product.
