Capitol One ripoff Mclean Virginia

I paid off my account and requested it be closed. When doing so, I asked for the "payoff amount". They gave me this - it was more than the monthly balance. I paid the payoff amount. Next month I get a statement that says I owe $70........an automatic charge that I had set up 3 years ago went through for $39. A late fee was added to come up with the $70 due.

It seems to me that when I paid the payoff amount and requested the account be closed, the account would be closed (or at least frozen). Well the $39 charge went through as sell as some acct protection charge.

I made my case to the representative on the phone and her supervisor....they could have cared less.....I offered to pay the $39 if they waived the late fee - they refused. Furthermore, they informed me of a policy that the account has to cary a 30 day $0 balance before it will be closed...NO ONE TOLD ME THIS. What a scam! Please help with a way to get a real phone number of Cap One corperate.. Anyone that has a similar situation can send me mail
