CashNet USA Fraudulent Loan Collection Harassment California

Received a "past due" notice from CashNet in Nov-2015, although I had not taken out any type of loan.  Called the number provided, and spoke to an obvious set-up guy.  He said that my identity must have been stolen, and someone took out a loan using my info.  He then directed me to file a police report.  When I asked for some information supporting the loan and/or credit check, he said they don't use credit verification and only have what was submitted by me..or the thief.

It was clear that the "stolen identity" and "file a police report" was meant to both scare me and get me to substantiate CashNet as a creditor.  This is a complete scam.  Do NOT let them harass you into paying them.

By the way, since my call, I have received 2 more letters stating the urgency of my payment...to avoid any credit issues.  And the last letter was willing to cut my balance owed by 25% as a settlement.

Another thing: the loan amount was only $315.  Another coniving strategy:  keep the amount small, and the victim is more likely to just pay.
