Cedar Point Cedar Fair Fighting Employees Getting Unemployment benefits Internet

Cedar Point has decided to not pay its employees Unemployment Benefits although there is a poster in its office stating that it does.  I am surprised that after some people wrote letters to the editor of some Ohio newspapers and nothing has been done.  The facts are that a good number of folks were getting Unemployment benefits after the 2009 season.  I was one of those persons who got benefits before Cedar Point started protesting.  At first we were winning.  But Cedar Point kept appealing.  They appealed agains one guy whom they tried to say had quit when actually his contract was over.  I am one of the people they tried to say was in education or going to school.  None of it was true. Around Christmas, they sold the company and appealed against me (and others) on the basis of "between seasons."  And since it was the Director of the Commission ruled in their favor, we are to pay back all the money we received.  I know of one guy who already paid the money back. The rest of us are told that the state Attorney General will come after the money if it's not paid within 45 days of that ruling.  I have a friend who checked into the law and saw that the reason for the Director's decision is not what's stated in the Ohio Revised Code.  The Director's decision is based on section D, that the employees are "athletes".  The reality is that we employees were barely making minimum wage and that is not enough to make it through life and we certainly are not athletes.  I came to Cedar Point because there wasn't anything else out there. 

So most recently, my friends and I who decided to fight it, have received information about a phone hearing.  In the mean time, as we search for a job, we have no money to pay the bills, including rent. (a landlord in the city of Sandusky has several tenants who are also cannot afford to pay their rent because of this fight.)  And Cedar Point knows we can't afford to pay a lawyer.  And I wish to add to some of the other past employees who made statements about the park.  Yes, it has a policy against racism and sexism but doesn't follow it.  I knew one older black man who was very smart, had a college degree, and yet he did a great job in Housing.  He was the type to speak out and did not like new people coming in and getting a blue tag position over him although they didn't know 1,000,000th as much as he did about his job.  I told him to go to the NAACP but he told me he'd handle it.  I've also heard the gay and black jokes.  Cedar Point seems to have an old plantation mentality and I've seen blacks from Detroit who wouldn't put up with it and got fired. The place desparately needs to be under new management instead of having the same people under a new company.  And I see why they need to hire foreigners since not many Americans will put up with their foolishness.
